Colwyn Bay Model Boat Club - Mayor's Cup Regatta, 2012
« on: September 16, 2011, 02:29:31 pm »

Colwyn Bay Model Boat Club Mayor's Cup Regatta  will be held on Sunday, 22nd July, 2012.

All our usual arrangements from previous years will continue and we will introduce a new competition for visitors displaying a boat at the Regatta.   Details of that will be announced in the new year.

There will be plenty of space for any new Clubs wishing to attend.

Photos of the 2011 Regatta can be viewed here ...........      https://picasaweb.google.com/106270604207025299963/Regatta_2011

Colwyn Bay Model Boat Club have now completed arrangements for the 2012 Mayor's Cup Regatta on Sunday 22nd July, 2012 at  our lake behind Colwyn Bay Civic Offices, LL18 8AR.

All Model boat enthusiasts are most welcome to come along , either individually or with a Club and we will happily provide space for gazebos and display tables.

There is plenty of free parking within yards of the lake and there is no admission charge.

This year we introduce a new competition, - "The Commodore's Regatta Trophy" - open to any visitor who puts a model boat on display and simply completes an application form on arrival.  The competition will be judged by our Commodore, John Palmer, assisted by two judges, who will be selected by the visiting boat clubs.

Marks Model Bits, Component Shop, Model Boat Bits and Mobile Marine Models have been invited to attend again this year.

Clubs wishing to reserve space for a Gazebo, or requiring further information etc should contact the Club Secretary, Alan Woodward, by email - [email protected].

Trade stands are still available by prior arrangement and are free of charge.

Is the postcode in the 2nd message correct?

Should it not read LL29 8AR  as supplied to me by club sec......

I dont think you want everyone to turn up to a green field and no water !

The correct address for our main lake is Civic Centre Offices, Abergele Road, Colwyn Bay, LL29 8AR.

My earlier post was made by an Idiot - me  (  LL18 is my home postcode )

Sorry for the confusion.

Is there any news on the "timetable of events" yet please.
Due to distance, Im unable to get there till around 10.30am and don't want to miss out on too much of the fun.
My Mersey Class Lifeboat wil be there, have managed to get yet another set of batteries, so can do three "sessions" .
Ok, it still not fully finished, but  display events come first at the moment, hopefully for your 2013 event it will be [ha ha].
I am hoping to get at least another 3 club members on our stand too.

The timetable for printing can be downloaded from www.colwynbaymodelboatclub.co.uk/documents/timetable.pdf

The times are approximate and there is always boats on the lake.

Your lifeboat will be in great company and it can be in the water    10.00 to 12.00, 13.00 to 14.00 and from 14.45 onwards - that should be enough for you.

10.00    -     Free sailing on lake

12.00    -   Club 500 race

12.20       -     Free steering yachts

13.00    -   Parade of all Boats on the lake

Mayor arrives
                         Mayor’s Cup Competition judging
         “Scratch Built” Competition
         Commodore’s Regatta Trophy Competition

14.00       -   Items for Auction to be delivered

14.00    -   Steamboat Phil

14.45    -   Lifeboats Parade on lake

15.00    -   Auction

15.15    -   Free sailing on lake

Seven Clubs have booked display space,  three important traders have stands reserved and lots of individuals are expected too.

We have a visitors only competition for the "Commodore's Regatta Trophy", which the winner gets to keep.

Free parking on the large tarmac council car park and no admission fee.

Everyone is welcome to just turn up on the day with boats.  We could even fit in one more trader ( no fees ! )

We are one minute from junction 22 on the A55, just follow the signs.

Nothing wrong with a bit of structure to event. :-))

Without structure there would be chaos

If there was chaos there would only be Mayhem  %% %% Now why does that sound Familiar  8)

Thanks for the timetable, I will circulate to our attending club members.
I have to agree, a timetable is always the better choice, otherwise its total chaos on the water with everything or nothing trying to get on there, plus it also allows those wanting to see the boats closeup, on their respective tables, they also know when to get the camera ready too.

We have quiet, pleasant days every Sunday, so why not pop along to one of those ?

But at the Regatta we try to provide what the majority ask for and that means some organisation is necessary.

New this year is a visitor's competition, because last year visitors asked us to introduce one.

We provide the Traders with free pitches because our members and visitors want Traders at the event. Some Traders have to leave home at 4am and don't get home until 10pm, we greatly appreciate their involvement.

The Parade of boats not only ensures everyone gets plenty of sailing opportunities without being micro-managed, but because the huge fleet creates a great spectacle, which attracts the general public.

If you demand to be allowed to sail around while SteamboatPhil and Stavros are centre stage in the lake, we can allow that - it almost guarantees a great spectacle  :}

If you do decide to come along anyway, look me up and I will buy you a cup of tea and a slice of Bara Brith.   :-))
