Deciding what to build!
« on: October 09, 2011, 03:13:47 pm »

I've been giving serious thought to what my first project is going to be and it's come down to a short list of 2.

Option 1:  I have a GRP mould for a clipper ship hull.  I made the mould some years ago from a solid copper master of the "Cutty Sark" which a friend of mine had.  He was a silversmith and had used the master to make solid silver hulls for 2 models.  The hull is about 33 inches long.  I was toying with the idea of a side wheel paddle steamer along the lines of the "USCGC Harriet Lane" or H.M.S. Dragon.

Option 2:  A modern warship "LCS2 U.S.S. Independence"  this would probably need water jet propulsion

I'd be interested in any suggestions or comment regarding these options

Gosh!  :o
Two very different options for a first project there. Neither of them look particularly simple either.
I would have though you need to decide which is more your "thing" as it'll be the easier to stay on track with.
I guess you'd get something sailable sooner with the modern boat.
Good luck with either.

The original trimaran warship (Triton) was single screw in the centre hull.
