ooops - does anyone know of a filler that will stick to ABS?
« on: November 08, 2011, 08:11:32 pm »

Hello All

I made a mistake today and allowed some glue to drop onto an ABS part. The glue has put a pit in the surface and i was wondering if this was 'fixable' using filler? It is a flat part of a superstructure.

Does anyone know of a sandable filler that will adhere well to ABS?

many thanks for any help.

Cheers

I've been using car body filler on ABS for many years.

Thank you Sir.

When i got past the general panic stage I decided to try dissolving some offcuts of the ABS in liquid cement until it formed a thick 'paste' i have used this paste as a filler and it worked just fine.

if it's only a shallow indentation......I use cellulose sanding putty.........great for filling small scratches and little dings....but no good for filling larger and deeper holes.

Humbrol do tubes of filler, handy for small blemishes, as you don't need to mix with a hardener

Lechler Spat Acrylic filler in 150g tubes at £3.99 seen it on ebay as well - i use it all the time for fine filling it goes on easily in small  amounts and isnt as sticky as the regular tinned car fillers like P40 /38 etc.
