Still, MM has a point. Modelling is supposed to be about making things rather than buying them.

Some of the 'experts' on here, (like many forums), forget that others either can't, or don't want to, make some detail parts themselves, especially if a vendor can supply the part required :((

Of course, if Colin grows his own trees for the wood etc, then we can't complain about his comment %)

if i can make it i do so. i dont have a lot of money to spend on my builds, obviously have to buy electrical parts and drive hardware, but if i had the electrical no how or even the machinery to make my own parts i would.

you coul make a radio out of some bits of plastic from the recyling bin, glue, a hand full tools an some ingenuity.

A lot of builds on here & elswhere would NEVER get built or finished if it was not for the manufacturers & traders that supply & support our hobby. I think Colin was having a bad day because he is generally one of the most helpful members on here. Mick B.

Since a VHF radio is basically a box with dials and knobs on, it should present no difficulties to make as an individual item.  For any manufacturer to make a really odd item in an uncommon scale that can be readily made at low cost is not likely to happen.  Making it work is another storyagain.
The problem area might if it is a type with a telephone type handset and associated cordage, for which a trip around a toy shop might be the answer,  I'm fairly sure that either action man or barbie had something involving a radio or phone.  The other thing that modellers do is adapt.

The questioner obviously has a computer. Any yachting magazine will probably have a photo of a VHF set in it. Copy picture, enlarge/reduce it. Print it. Stick it on a bit of plasticard. Carve or otherwise mock up a handset. Fasten to a bulkhead. Done about an hour. BY.

I was looking for a 3 dimentional Ship to Shore R.T. not a picture of one.
Still, thanks for the suggestion.

what he means is the screen. I wanted a radar monitor for my boat. so i made a small tv out of wood about 20mm by 15mm i then laminated a real radar image on the back of some see threw plastic. put a small light bulb inside to make the picture glow and hey presto.

i built a scratch built static model of my own trawler, only thing i think i bought was the prop, made a vhf for the wheelhouse out of rectangle bit of wood, painted black and orange for the screen on it, microphone/handset a wooden piece to and the cable btween radio and mike a bit of a biro spring sretched abit

the wheel wasnt scratch built either!, radio at top of wheelhouse hanging from roof, with abit more time and effort be easy to make a much better more detailed 1, i only did a quick 1 as it cant really be seen when roof on top

Macs Mouldings have just done the wheelhouse gear but if you need a specific VHF set
then downloading a photo of the front panel and scaling it is probably the best bet
Make a little balsa or plasticard box to stick the photo on and use the suggestions on here
for the handset/curly cable

Hey, come on fellas...the guy asked a straight forward question, and wanted a straight forward answer, not an argument about whether he should make one or not. Give him a break, huh? Perhaps he doesn't want to make one or can't make one....

I agree with U-33, the guy asks a simple question and before you know it, all the 'Know it all's' jump in offering advice he didn't ask for, I reckon useless replies ARE negative ones... >>:-(
