Hi Derek, so glad I didn't cause any offence... it's not normally in my nature, honest!

Ref. the handle... I have no ties with the "land down under" but I served in the RN, well, I was actually in the Fleet Air Arm because I had a higher intellect....  and everybody in the services has to have a nickname.... my surname is Rue, so, "Kanga" was what I became known as (as did my father before me!) so "Kangaroo" sort of makes sense... well, it does to me anyway.

BTW, "OZ" is definitely on my bucket list of places to visit.... and not just because SWMBO watches neighbours! ;)

Kanga1....believe it or not  {-)...we have a small hamlet /village approx 50 km south & a bit inland from Wollongong...called Kangaroo Valley.....yes true........see the link below.......

In the hamlet/village is a stream .....crossing the stream is convict built sandstone bridge called the Hampton bridge [I think some of my relos  >:-o worked on the construction]

So with your handle...& when you do venture down to OZ you should visit the Hampton bridge in our Kanga valley................ %) ....Derek

We're quite a likable bunch of bar stewards really. %% {-) I'm a bit mystified as to why you would want to go to Melbourne though :o The Victorian vehicle number plates have the slogan "Victoria, the place to be", yet it seems that most of them are up here, and further north ;)

As you may have noticed, the rivalries between England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland are nothing compared to those between the Australian States and Territories.   O0
Of course they all gang up on the UK and NZ.  <*<   Especially for Test Matches of any sort.
For those not in the know.  Melbourne has special turns to avoid trams where one has to keep in the left lane until all the other traffic has passed, before turning right.   No one of sound mind, or interstate visitors, argues with a 'trammie'.  >>:-(

First came accross that sort of thing in Spain in 1970 but of course it was the otherway around as well and, not having experienced this sort of thing before, completly ingnored it and turned left as normal, to the frustration of the locals I felt.

I next came accross this system in Townsville or was Cairns, I can't remember which, five years ago but as I wasn't driving it didn't really bother me.

Hope to back in oz in a couple of years at the latest.

Just despatched both grown up Daughters to Heathrow for a holiday in OZ. Sydney, then Cairns then Melbourne.

I would like to do the same but sitting in economy class for over 24 hours doesn't much appeal. But they are youg and won't be so bothered.

Colin....sitting in Qantas economy for 24 hours is no fun at all....we locals opt for 24 hours in baggage class.... {-) plenty of leg space to stretch out  O0...only trouble is you must now take your own oxygen bottle as the latest cost cutting measure is to de-pressurize the baggage compartment  :o  >>:-( ....Derek

Tut, tut, tut, Colin :o....it's QANTAS, Queensland And Northern Territory Aerial Services. The name reflects the origins of the airline 91 years ago in outback Queensland O0 :-)

thegrimreaper...... {-) the good thing about OZ is it's simple geographic location relationship....... :o

If you start off in Melbourne....no need for one of those SAT-nav Tom Tom devices  >>:-(....just bring your trusty boy scouts compass

Set it on the dashboard of the camper & follow the needle point toward north you will get to see Peter in 3 to 5 days depending on the weather {-).........Derek

When was the last time you were in Sydney?   Round and round the Mulberry bush. {:-{ but I suppose it is no worse than London!
At least in Melbourne it's either North - South or East - West.  :}

Um... sorry Peter, QANTAS it is. I believe they have some rather wierd seats on their arcraft..... (when they aren't on strike or being locked out)

Still, I'm sure Daughters will very much enjoy their visit. We will settle for a day trip to France on a ferry in a couple of week's time. Plenty of room for the wine payload in the car.
