I need to put down a pre printed ply deck (Caldercraft Sir Kay) onto a ply base, in the past I have planked using cyno, this time its a one piece job, I can think of lots of ways, all of which should work, but ........
Whats the best (and easiest) adhesive to use, there is some over painting of grey around the edges, although if needed I can of course sand these back.

For this type of printed deck, I rub down the deck, prepare and paint the deck.
I then lay the printed deck on the prepared wooden deck, position it exactly where I want it.
Draw round the printed deck with a soft pencil (4B).
You can then lay microstrip plastic on the pencil line, or not bother.
Paint PVA glue on the underside of the printed deck and allow to soak in.
Place printed deck in place and using a small roller roll the deck to ensure it is fully down.
Wipe off any excess PVA glue off with a damp cloth.
When all is dry, Matt varnish the whole deck.
I have had decks done this way and lasted for over 20 yrs.

Thanks Bob, sound good, but...  1. Do I need to remove all the paint to the inside of the pencil line?  2. What is Microstrip?
3. With the PVA, is it soak in, but stay 'sticky' because you say wipe off excess, I wouldn't have thought that there would be any, if it had soaked in? - does that make sense?

Hi Colin,,,I built Caldercrafts Imara and put down the one piece deck applied to the printed sheet only Evo-Stick weatherproof adhesive.Once in position I used a travelling iron to ensure  Good fit at the edges.Set the iron for silks though!!

On a bit of spare stuff...try the indoor/exterior double sided tape. Works a treat on decks.

I'd go with Bob, as long as the PVA glue is the waterproof variety. You can wipe off any excess with a damp rag while it is still runny. Neat and very permanent.

Thanks for the advice, I already have the coamings in which restricts my options, but I will give the double side tape a try, and go and exchange my PVA for an exterior variety!!

You dont need to remove any paint, PVA will stick to it.
When you lay the printed deck  some will squeeze out the sides (hopefully) so this will need wiping off.

 I am interested in your double sided tape, but using it for planking. Just had a browse around B&Q, they do have carpet tape, is that basically the same thing, if not, what is it that you are using and where do you get it from? I have a feeling it will be too thick for 'fine' planking.

I bought some from the Stationers and it's very thin indeed. It's about 3/8 th of an inch wide and comes attached to a backing strip. You lay it across the surface and peel off the backing.  I found it very sticky.

If you want the ultimate adhesion, try to lay your hands on some 3M VHB tape - but if you do use it, remember there are no second chances. We use this for all manner of jobs at work - like bonding aluminium panels together.

Thanks Wombat, I was going to ask you where I could find the 3M tape, but then I remembered Google, lots of suppliers!
Will give it a try, the only problem I can see, is the tape seems to be 1mm thick, therefore the deck may need edge sealing.
