"water fog"...any ideas?
« on: December 14, 2011, 02:41:16 pm »

The Stealth concept destroyer I'm building would apparently have had the capability to produce a cloud of "water fog" to provide cover for infra red hotspots, and of course I'd like to try and reproduce this in my boat...as you do.

 I take it that "water fog" means a very fine cloud of water spray over the superstructure...?

Any ideas as to where I should start building this?

I don't know...is it? They go out in rain, so a mist of water should be ok.

Not sure if it will work the way you want
take an electric hp fuel pump and a few injectors then it to work via a switch.
Now if you use the injectors from a petrol engine you will need to either mod them to allow constant misting or set up a pulse supply to trigger them to fire in quick succession.

just a quick thought for you to ponder

you wont see a fine mist of water. If you look at the foggy from mmb it uses water, if you plump it several outlets around the boat the mist wont congregate to make a smoke a affect but a mist one  {:-{

you would need dry ice to make a smoke screen

That's food for thought...thank you, sir.

Why won't I see a fine mist of water?

And I don't want to make a smokescreen.... {:-{

Sounds like an upgraded "pre-wet" system. Great in theory, not so easy in practice. BY.

A 'pre wet' system...is that what they use on car ferries, BY?

it wont make a smoke screen. Im not talking about a smoke screen.

fogger units use vibrations to turn water into a dense mist.

http://www.maplin.co.uk/mini-fogger-mist-generator-35215

theres some links down the side of this page how it works:

http://www.steammasterunit.com/#/features/4543003949

if you were to take the outlet of the say mmb foggy unit that is usually used to make a smoke stack and plumb it into serveral outputs instead of making a thick fog the outputs would make a transparent mist because they would spread it out and not concentrate it.

Prewetting is a system used on warships and RFA's to shroud the ship in water sprays whilst transiting a nuclear fallout area.

Which stealth destroyer are you making? I have a look at plans for a couple of stealth ships on Cornwall model boats ages ago, cant remember the names now.

Got it, thanks Ned.

It's a Danish concept Stealth boat, Derrick...never actually left the drawing board...(I like building concept boats, nobody can tell you that you've done this bit or that bit wrong if it never existed)

I'll take some photos and post them up here later on.

That's why I liked the look of them, think it was RN concept ships, spectre or something, liked the idea of making a modern ship and then fitting some classic battleship turrets lol

pics would be good, as for the 'water fog' I'd tend to agree that a normal smoke unit with multiple small outlets would give the mist/fog effect rather than smoke.

I've got the article on the Spectre build, another one on a catamaran named HMS Cougar, both concept warships...then there's the Sea Wraith, which I believe was a Vosper Thornycroft design(?)

This one is a catamaran hull...that's why I needed your two motors!

Ah right, was gonna ask if that's what they were going in. Not seen the catamarans, want to get the concept trimaran, and whatever other concepts I can find.

Bit of a cheek but I don't suppose you could scan the spectre article?

sorry I'll stop hijacking now....

the maplin fogger has a multi plug that you would have to work out the pinouts on. on ebay they have 24v units that have a standard connector on. if you google 24v fogger on dc you will find that people are saying that they will run just fine on dc althought hey are designed to run on ac.
