Prop-Shop
« on: March 28, 2007, 07:55:48 pm »

Has anyone on the forum used this company recently?
I ordered a prop from them on the 15th March and have received nothing. I have tried contacting them by e-mail, with no reply and their telephone just rings. ??? ???
Has anyone else had this problem or am I just impatient.  I did order a prop from them last year and had no problem.

Hi there,
I ordered some props off them in February.
The props arrived with in a couple of days.
I would check to see if the money has been taken
out of the bank for them if not maybe you have the
wrong contact details or they have not processed your order

Just a thought

Hi Brian (2)
Simon, the original 'Propshop' was "taken over" last year.  He is still working for the new company but the address has changed to
Swan Foundry (Banbury) Ltd
Swan Close
Banbury
OX16 5AL

Tel 01295 263134

If you sent the ordr to his old place, that's why you're still waiting

Hi Danny
I ordered my prop using my credit card, through their web site which has all the correct data for the new company. I even got an acknowledgement e-mail with the details on as to who to contact if I had a problem, nothing :( :(

The next boat I build will not have one of their props on it. If they can not be bothered with some sort of customer service, they do not deserve customers.

I think I will have to prompt George (Sitek) into getting his details in the Traders list, as I have always found him to be helpful and a supplier of high quality items.   Pete M

I seem to remember a previous thread that covered this subject, to which i added my two penneth worth.. I also placed an  order (low value) which after two months and phone calls where i was assured my order was on it's way, I bought elsewhere because nothing materialised, only to have the item turn up and my account debited when I'd given up on it. I also have been self employed in what are cottage industries and the temptation is to go with the earners ( that's why people are in business after all) but in my experience you always have slack periods where the work shop maintenance takes place and you stock up on those low income items that don't earn you a fortune but keep you ticking over and perhaps could turn out to be your bread and butter.  That leaves you free for the jam items when they come where you really earn your dosh.
Once you P people off, and it could be for a really stupid reason, they walk forever in a small trade as this.
I'd also say from experience, don't go down the road of thinking "they'll be back because our product is better" Because folks vote with thier feet..............me for one!!!

I'm a pussy cat really

John C I agree with you
I hate bad customer service, the number of rants and raves I have had on a phone with one company or another over bad service are too numerous to metion, NTL now Virgin Media being the worst.
The problem with going somewhere else is that in model boat building there is not always somewhere else to go, I now know there is for props, but for other bits it aint always that easy.
I think if you work in such a niche market like supplying parts for model boats then looking after the customer, has to be your number on priority everything else is just window dressing if you are not selling anything.

That is my rant over, no more.

I have finally got in contact with Prop-Shop and they say they were going to post out the prop on Friday. the strange thing is when I spoke to them they were going to send out a prop with a 5mm thread because I had not stipulated what thread I wanted and that was the one they had in stock.
So without contacting me they were going to send out the wrong one, which means I would have had to send it back and then wait for the correct one. >:( >:( >:(
I call that customer dis-service

My mate bought a hydro prop from them once and it wouldn't even get his boat on the plane. So he bought a similar sized/pitch Octura one from ASTEC and the boat was ballistic! He ain't been back to Propshop since. Must say that the service was fine though. Pity because it was a nice looking prop which he uses just when his boat is on static display.
Cheers,
Ian.

I bought a couple of props from them and the quality was excellent. However, it took three phone calls over a significant period before they produced the goodies. The excuse for the delay was that I wanted a BA instead of metric thread. Credible? - I didn't think so, considering that when I ordered them I was assured of next day service.

No I did not stipulate what thread I wanted, but an e-mail would have sorted it out. The last time I ordered a prop from them and there was a problem that is what they did, obviousley could not be bothered this time.
Also 4 days later I received another prop same size but with the 5mm thread, I can use that as ballast.

I have had a similar problem with Inwood Models, I ordered some brass sheet from them, emailed to day to find out where it was told it was out of stock should be in at the end of the week will post it then. No atempt to tell me there was a problem with my order, another supplier to cross of my list.

The Missus ordered a prop for my Nangee on the 22nd March, ( I was away working) she gave all the  relevant details needed and was assured it could be sent next day, ( yer I know ) she told me that the conversation was at best a bit gruff, and she did,nt like the attitude. I recieved the prop today !8th April, nearly a month later. Thats one shop I dont think I will be going back to, though reading the other threads I am glad that at least I have recieved a prop.

I'm after two pairs of 18mm three blade props with a 3mm thread, I could get away with 20-22mm. Apart from this lot does anyone have an idea where I could get some? I have tried George Sitek and westbourne Models.
