Logan City Marine Modellers facilities improvements
« on: December 29, 2011, 12:24:36 am »

Here are a few photos of our new park facilities, we asked for a shipping container to store the rescue tinnie and other bits and pieces. We ended up with a 7 metre square Clubhouse, a covered Pontoon, and a concrete boat ramp to launch trailer based models that visit. The rest of the park facilities were also improved with extra parking, a fantastic playground and improved BBQ and seating for parties.

Hi
Thanks DickyD, We dont have a regular web master unfortunately {:-{, we do have a massive thread on RC Groups with regular posts from 2007. :-))

Trooper63, your more than welcome, Sail days are Wednesday and Sunday Mornings from 7:00Am to 12:00 Pm

Peter thanks for the kind words, Its taken a long time from initial enquires to the council to now having everything in place.

We have quite a few tweaks to go to get everything exactly as we want it but I think we now have an excellent base.

Now I have figured out the post image multiple photo upload I may just update here as well as on RC groups
for those that haven't seen that thread
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=665257

Thanks

It is amazing what local councils can do if they are on your side.
Surrey Park MBC in Melbourne have recently had their club house extended by the council and very nice it is!
Room to display boats and even cooking facilities.  O0
Certainly makes a difference to some of the stories that have appeared on Mayhem recently.

I knew I should have emigrated when I had the chance.  :-))

What lovely facilities. We have a new water, courtesy of a local developer, but no storage or club house facility. The local authority have been promising something for the last umpteen years but we are always too far down the list of priorities.

Still we are a lot better off than some.

Good luck with your new buildings, may you og from strength to strength  :-))

This shows up British councils Sadly the money just is not avalible and the prority is low. Its unlikely that things will change for the better. Enjoy your new facilities. John.

Our local council have been pretty good to us, although we had to pay for the container. The council paid $1000 towards the cost of the mural, and installed a wash down table with a fresh water tap (we sail in salt water).

While our facilities are not up to the standard of those at Logan, we are more than happy with what we have.

Nick,

Logan Council rates a 10 out of 10.

What makes this outstanding, is that the waterway and a great percentage of the adjacent parkland's, were under water with the recent floods.
Now has picnic, electric barbecue, children's playground and excellent boating facilities.

Thanks Peter

I have been promising the same to you and Ive never made it :embarrassed:

Now the in-laws have moved from Lismore to Toowomba unfortunately it wont be happening for me :(( I did visit once but it was an off day, chucked the springers in for the kids and had some fun, proved to myself that RC does not penetrate salt water as well, My SB1 was not happy once the pressure hull submerged

Cheers

I thought we had it pretty good down here but thats amazing, I've always said to the wife that if we move to the mainland it would have to be somewhwere with a model boat club, I think yours goes to the top of my list.

Nick,

Good to see that there is not a lot of water, hanging about the low areas as before.

Will have to get down there once again, for another look see, other than a Wednesday (Sail day) :-)) :-)) :-))

You show no location so don't know if you are a local.

Will try to get down that way in the next few days and see what's up.

Can't see Nick_75au in members list?

Logan was formed from the Triple S group and they, Triple S, may be able to assist.

The Logan link, from the Triple S site doesn't work.

I am about the same distance away so will see what I can find out.

They might only have lost there web presence.

The club facilities have been provided by Logan city council which is supportive of the club.

The only restriction is no Ic motors, in other words electric or sail.

Sailing boats used to sail on Wednesdays and open day was Sunday.

There seems to be a big posting on the radio control web site regarding what was sailed.

Sadly not all councils in Australia are so accommodating. Ours the City of Greater Geelong has a bylaw banning all 'toy boats' from council 'owned' water.
Luckily Deakin University is happy to have us.

Our club is very fortunate, in that Ballina Shire Council are very supportive of us. They built a wash down table, as we sail in salt water, and provided a fresh water tap for us to clean our models after each sailing. We keep the immediate area mowed and trimmed, but the council keep the rest of the park well maintained. They even built us a small jetty, and negotiated, on our behalf, right of access over Crown Land with the NSW State Government. The only restriction is that no IC engines are permitted.

Peter......I have not been to your club waters, however a lifelong Wollongong mate [now working at Lismore University] confirm your facilities there are first class.... & 100%  better as we have no official water here Wollongong to use >>:-(

A number of people from the Illawarra are members of St George close by to Sydney airport ...it is only a 40 minute drive....so is acceptable

The facilities at St George would certainly equal those at Ballina :-))......Derek
