Hello, just joined the forum, and the reason being, is that I have recently retired and would like to return to model building, although since my last model I have got married, had two kids who have flown the coop, gone through ten cars, finished the mortgage, and the weather is keeping me house bound to a point, too wet to go out on the mountain bike. I have seen a build that I am interested in and have found a thread on here about the build etc. Anyway I look forward to finding my way around, and from what I have seen so far, the knowledge on here probably can not be found in books...

Hi Tom and welcome to the Mayhem!

Supper at 18:00 hundred bells... something! Informal dress. Bring sherry.   ok2

So what type of boats capture your imagination?

Thank you Martin.
To be honest, I am not a nautical person at all, but just like boats. I hope that makes sense. I have, as a kid, sailed on the Orsova and Canton and numerous ferries. Whilst in the army I sailed on several LSL's and managed to get a 3 week trip on HMS Campbletown (F86) on her shakedown cruise in the Bay. Like I said in my intro I have just retired, and I spend most of my time being a house husband, and the rest of the time, either dog walking, mountain biking, or going down the gym. So, I wanted a hobby to challenge me mentally and something that is going to keep me occupied once I have done the house work! I have briefly scanned the forum and this is exactly what I need to find advice and help. As a matter of interest the boat I fancy building is the Milford Star by Calder Craft and there is a thread already going on this build.
Your thoughts if you know this model.
Kind regards
Tom in Cumbria

Richard, thanks for that, and thanks for the link which I visited. Hmmm looks like I am going to be up against it. What amazes me is the amount of skill that folk put into these models. Just outstanding. The good thing here is that this seems to be a popular boat all round so, when I am banging my head against a brick wall, I will know where to turn too. I am looking at going for it either at the end of this month or next month. Once again thanks to you and every one.
