MB Forum Return?
« on: May 06, 2006, 01:50:31 pm »

Hi all

Good to see some familiar names, and pleased to become a member.

Have read the last entries on this subject and am keeping my fingers crossed that the MB forum with its subject layout will return.
I had many questions and good advice offered over a period and would like to be able to source the information again.

However one problem that when going to the MB forum recently to see if it is up and running again, I am immediatly directed to a full stop at a host site called 'Global Gold' -  which my company computer network bans from use to all our employees as being a website with links to pornography.

Will, if ever MB's forum returns, this same host site be used?  If so my daily 'look-see' will no longer be a workpause pleasure.

Regards

Does anyone know what happened to the Model Boats website and forum?
This is from the 'Site Updates' link on Mayhem front page:
Tuesday 4 April  2006
"The Model Boats website is in the process of being redesigned and will be moving to a new Host Provider - as is obvious when you click on the url. This will happen in the very near future - should be up and running by May. It will be completely redesigned and will once again feature direct on-line shopping for plans, etc.

We will be including a Forum and we are hopeful that we have been able to recover the Forum files so that none of the previous information is lost. Confirmation on this is expected later today as we only became aware yesterday lunchtime that the Host Server was about to pull the plug and there was some last minute downloading in an attempt to secure the Forum files.

The website was one of the many items to suffer under the demise of Highbury. Our new company, Encanta Media Ltd is striving to bring everything back to normal and to develop our services so we ask people to be patient for a few more weeks." John Cundell ( Editor Model Boats Magazine ) ......

I hope the Model Boats forum is successful but can't help thinking it won't be now that Mayhem has taken off so well.? I cannot see Mayhem at work (it is unreachable not blocked, something to do with DNS servers) and during my lunch hour I kick my heels and could really do with something interesting to do.? When I'm at home I've generally got other things to be doing especially with the lighter evenings (except for today of course).
Oh well can't please all of the people all of the time.
Best wishes

Julian

I moved across here on the demise of MB and actually find it rather better laid out.? ?My type of model attracts very little interest amongst other modellers, but everyone behaves OK here so why move back if MB ever re-appears?? ?

I agree with Positive. This Mayhem forum is just as good as the MB one, plus there's all the photos, builds etc. Keep up the good work is what I say and well done. So why the need to move back?

I'll be staying here too. Much better than the MB forum. Thanks Martin.  :)  Even if a new MB forum returns, in whatever form, it would be a shame to desert Martin's ship after all his work.

I shall be staying here too, this is an excellent Forum and far superior to the old MB Forum.
Plus I do think Martin deserves some loyalty for stepping into the void and producing this Forum from scratch.
If MB have any sense they will include a link to this site, and who knows, even offer a little sponsorship!!

Hi all

Like the majority - I will be staying with this forum - it will be interesting to see what Model Boats and our good friend John C will do - because when you think about it, there are several options really for advertising and soforth.? ?

Ive done a quick check on the Members here and I noticed there is a JohnC registered  - I wonder if this is the JohnC from Model Boats - I do hope so, because he would be able to put some input into this Forum without feeling restricted as he was on the last Forum.? ;D

I'll be staying here too. I hope sense prevails and these forums are 'officially' (as 'officially' as they can be!) recognised as the main model boating forums in the UK. I wouldn't like to see a split in the community between two forums as the community isn't really big enough to cater for that.

Just my humble opinion ;)

Just to put an end to the mystery.......no I'm not John Cundell, I didn't consider the implications when I chose my user name, but the reaction did amuse me.
looking into the info re: waverly etc, thanks for the pointers.

I see no point in going back to MB forum.    Martin not only runs an excellent forum, but the whole of his website is interesting and informative.   Before anyone asks, no I do not need any brownie points.

I had been a member of the MB forum for quite a long time, but since I found out about this forum, I have to say that Mayhem is afr superior to the MB forum, and not as restricted etc. This was the same methodology I used for my website....to be a calm place for members to visit.

In MB'c absence, things really have moved on, and I think we can all sentiment that here. Martin does a great job with this forum, and for that, he should be applauded :)

I agree with all that has been said, during a time in our lives when we were in danger of losing a good quality and informative medium to share information Martin stepped into the breach and very quickly provided a very credible alternative. This altrenative has quickly established itself into a well supported and informative tool which I think is superior to the previous.

Model Mayhem is a superb, unbiased and free from commercial pressures site that provides a stable platform for all issues to be discussed open and honestly, Martin has proved his moderating skills by using good common sense and common courtesy to our peers ensures we all stay in line. There is nothing wrong with opinions or healthy debate but it is so refreshing to be a member of a site where bad language and personal insults are not prevelant - It is a site where you dont mind the children visiting.

I think we all owe loyalty to MM, there is nothing that MB or any other forum can offer us that we dont already have.
