RNLI FUNDRAISING SAIL
« on: April 14, 2012, 01:37:21 pm »

Lunacy has descended upon me again, and whilst up at Glasson Dock today taking some pictures of 52' Barnett lifeboat Ramsey Dyce for my next build the urge came upon me to try organizing another endurance sail.

Although I sadly was unable to take part in the last one last summer, my boat did and I was saddened that none of the boats......even though so well prepared never did get to the end of their target under their own power.....and it was the target that was more important than the venue, to me.

It was quite a windy day today bit of rain, bit o' sun, but the canal leading into the Glasson Dock basin was for all of it's length that I could see down to Bilsborrow in the southern end.....flat calm......unlike Loch Ness

................and the  (yet another ) crazy thought came to me of a charity sail for lifeboats,( the RNLI) with model lifeboats, from the original start of the Lancaster Canal at Preston ( 53 45 58 86" North, 02 43 18 45 West Google earth) to the picturesque canal basin of Glasson Dock a spur off the Lancaster Canal at ( 53 59 46 35 North , 02 50 01 42 West, google earth).......a distance similar to Loch ness but without the trauma's of rough sailing water.

As the team raised over £3500 in the final total I was wondering if anyone with a model lifeboat would like to join me next summer 2013 ( probably during the first week of the summer holidays, ) in attempting this run..................can't go any worse than the Loch Ness sail where all three boats had to retire for one reason or another.

If you are seriously interested, and this would mean serious commitment to raise sponsorship in your local area plus work on the day...then please let me know your thoughts, whether you would like to be part of it with a model lifeboat and what you feel.

If there is sufficient response, from fellow modellers, ( and I could do with a few helpers from local areas to collect from pubs on the day) I will set the ball rolling.......just remember, there is a lot of commitment, no expenses are met by the sponsor money ( all comes out of our own pockets) but there are plenty of very nice watering holes on the route..........

I'm up for it, and will, as last time do the paperwork organisation, plus support boats etc............it's commitment from you guys to raise as much in your areas as possible to make this a success.............

please let me know asap with  concrete commitment.

cheers,
neil.

  Brilliant idea Neil!!
Your good lady might not agree,so if the men in white coats don't take you away in the meantime,I will offer what help I can computer-wise.
Fraid I wont be able to attend, with or without a boat,as two trips up to your area  in a year is enough, for my dear wife who is the driver.
just to raise some enthusiasm   they serve a loverly cup o tea and snacks at the Glasson Dock Cafe!
COME ON ALL YOU MODEL LIFEBOAT OWNERS! Help Neil get this one up and running
