New Member - Electric Running Gear Help for Scratch Build
« on: April 18, 2012, 09:14:48 pm »

Having put this project on hold over the winter months I've picked it up again and i'm still unsure as to which the best option for prop and rudder setup is?

http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=31669.0

I've run models with the prop shaft coming out the keel of the hull at an angle with the rudder located behind it but really want to try something a bit different and am considering doing it like this.

Option 1: Rudder offset to prop with prop extending further out from transom.

Option 2: Prop and rudder in line with prop located closer to transom.

Which of these look like a suitable setup and is the motor located correctly or should it be nearer the stern?

Thanks in advance.

hey GAS i was wondering what happend to you and this build thread i was following it then just stopped. option 1 not option 2. I reckon that the hole that the prop shaft comes out is a little high too. needs to be right on the edge, the propshaft angle also needs to be as flat as possible and where you have the motor now if you move the hole down then the propshaft wont be flat no more. youl need to push the motor more forward to make the angle shallower. The back of the prop want to be 10 and 13 percent away from the transom. looking at your old thread that is between 80 and 104mm If it was me id put it about halfway at 90mm. the motor wants to be right up front where what im guessing is a hatch bolt, the back of the motor wants to be there.
