HMS Mohawk c.1910 Work in progress-Funnels & wireless office
« on: April 29, 2012, 02:50:56 pm »

Hello! Its been a while since i last posted anything but here are some of my efforts from the long winter nights.

I made the second and third funnels first using the vacuum molds in the Deans kit. I discarded the molds for the first and fourth funnels as they were much wider than the second and third funnels when they should all be of the same width. The shaped top and bottom of each funnel was made by gluing a strip of plastic around the top and an oversized piece at the bottom then shaping with a scalple.

The steam pipes were made using brass tube. I think they look better than the white metal ones included in the kit and came about due to the white metal snapping as soon as i tried to get the shape i wanted.

The scratch built sirens add a nice bit of detail to funnel two and were pretty easy to make. Brass tube to the rescue again and some fuse wire.

The photo below shows the wireless office which was added with the rest of the radio equipment to Mohawk c.1910. It sits between the mast and first funnel and is off set from the center line of the boat to port. Something of note is the ladder to nowhere. This was added to the funnel when it was lengthened and is accessable from the roof of the wireless office.
