hello kinda new to mayhem... :-)  was wondering  just got a very old ship in need of total refit its in a poor state  while scaping of years of hull paint  i found the name IOLANTHE  only info/pic  i could find  was of a ship with only 1 funnell  mine has 2 oh and under the paint the acuall hull is tin (is this normal) any info would be thankfully recived. hope pics upload as new to this!!..thanks. paddy

I still can't find an Iolanthe with two funnels - have you got a full deck shot?

Looks like the superstructure is on wrong way round. {:-{   Bridge is usually towards the bow !   Maybe the builder was a Gilbert and Sullivan fan ?

Thats OK matey. I think tin-plate is unusual for an amateur build. I wonder if this boat isn't a commercially built model by say Basset Lowke or similar company. probably pre WWII. If so it would be a collector`s item and maybe worth a bob or two. Repainting in this case could be a mistake.  Be carefull when rubbing or sanding the paint it may be old style lead based, bad for your health. It is an interesting model.

thanks  again arrow5 ...i googled  basset lowke   got some good pics thanks again   she  came my way with most of the deck/superstructer allinside the hull.... mabe i can get her back to something like she was way back  ,,,,as a stactic display or rc as she was once was... as for the pain job she is in a  real bad shape  and needs new paint  none toxic this time.lol  ..like i said shes not all there will use what i have hope   its enough  pad
