Parrallel Batteries

Hi

just wondering about the pro's and cons of fitting two 7.2v batteries wired in parrallel to drive a single 6-9v motor through mtroniks 20amp viper marine and Bec.

Not really bothered about weight issue got plenty of room.More interested in runtime.

Yes you might as well make the ballast work for you, and you can get the run time you want too.
I had this recommended to me recently by someone I trust http://www.electronize.co.uk/fr30_series.htm and I'm told they can be repaired too, whereas some others are throwaway. This was posted up recently too http://www.howesmodels.co.uk/RadioControl/viewProduct.php?ProdID=5695. I'm sure someone here will advise you of the best buys when you have the motor and prop info to hand. There are some bad buys out there too that can burn your boat so it's good policy to ask first buy later.

And of course ACTion have a module for connecting two batteries in a safe and tidy manner - theres a recent thread about that somewhere near.

It is dangerous to attach rechargeble batteries in parrallel.

If 1 cell in 1 battery fails the other battery will discharge into it, which will almost certainly cause a fire.

I don't know if the products other people have posted will protect against this problem.

P103 is specifically designed to prevent this. (Pete - you were right!)
