I was a boy scout... always prepared..  ;D

I'm so limited now with lifting, moving and using my boats, that a change is on the cards methinks...

They are used for piste preparation - if you want an 'experience' with one you can purchase it here  http://www.zermatt.ch/en/page.cfm/experience/skiing_snowboarding/pistepreparation !   Video included...

they are pretty good stepson has one.... but they can be foiled by the "wrong" type of snow tho.  Also a good idea to change the stock motors for a crawler type truck motor
These are good fun too
we have a nitro one

Hi Rich, keep positive & hook up with someone that can help you out with the heavy lifting & the fiddly bits, if she is blonde all the better. Things will get better when you keep a positive attitude, thats speaking from experience. Mick B.

Thanks son, I keep chasing my doc for my hospital date, but all I get is "you're on the list"...the way the NHS is at the moment, that list is getting longer and longer by the minute.   :embarrassed:

And thanks to you, Mick B...I'm not parting with my subs just yet, but I think it'll be just show sailing only for the rest of this year.

I just fancied a snow cat for something to play with, either indoors, or outdoors when and if I can get down the damn stairs to go outdoors! Also, it should make into a nice model by the time I'm done with it...Polar Expedition colour scheme, operating lights and beacons..all the bits I like to play about with.

Thank you again chaps...you'll not get rid of me just yet!

Well...that's just shot the idea of any new model out of the window  for a while. Just had notification that the MOT and the road tax is due on my little car, so that's my pension for this month gone in one hit.   <:(

Still,  at least I can say when I sell it "it's got a year's ticket on it, mate..."

Hi Rich, my son works as a ski instructor in Germany and sometimes has to drive one of the Kassbohrer PistenBully s to groom a piste ( yeah he`s always on the piste ! :embarrassed:)  All of the Scottish ski areas have pisters if you want to see the real thing in action or even organise a competition for R/C models on snow.  Youtube has a mass of clips of the models (and full size)  Search for "International RC Snow cat Winter Meeting"   and  www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSRrkIKCHGw  Hope your health improves and you get the op soon.  Of course you will need a holiday in the  Alps after you get out ...now where is the Kassbohrer factory again :} ?????

Hi Rich (not any longer am I...)

no you get shorter with age mate.

How about this - I have developed a real liking for dioramas. I really think a lot of skill is needed to get them just right. How about a trying a small scale scene with a sub and surface vessel? Plenty there to occupy you - little weight or cost either.......... nothing sub standard though {-)

They are fascinating things to see in action...thanks for the links, Mr Arrow sir. I haven't been to Scotland in years, used to be a regular visitor to Aberdeen back in my working days, maybe I could find me a nice nurse to accompany me on a trip up that way....  ;D

Dave

I do confess to once starting a diorama of the now long gone Cuckoo Line which used to run right outside my front door, Dave...the idea was to have a series on mini dioramas inside a diorama (does that make sense), but it never really got off the ground due to the lure of the submarines being too strong.

My main problem (apart from my health problems) is a lack of space...I live in a small one bedroom flat, with the bedroom doubling up as a modelling room, and the lounge is more or less full of 'lounge type' stuff...sofa, chair, TV, the AMS Mission Control (pc desk, laptop and a desktop pc, scanner/printer thing, etc) there's precious little room for much more. Oh, and the Dragonfish and the Neptune take up a fair bit of space as well.

But, there maybe a light at the end of the tunnel...now I'm registered as disabled, I've put in an application for a disabled bungalow...they have a small garden AND...a shed! I still know a few people on the council, including one in the housing section...I've just found his string, so I'll be gently tugging on it when my application lands on his desk.

Thanks for all the replies chaps, they are much appreciated, I assure you.

Rich, cant help with the nurse but as you are registered "disabled" you should contact "Skiability" ,used to be called The Uphill Ski Club. They will oblige with trips to snow even if it is just to see the piste grooming machines at work. They do tours all over Europe and have a permanent presence here on Cairngorm. (mainline to London, including sleeper) See www.cairngormmountain.com   If you make it up I`ll make sure you get a ride on a Kassbohrer snow pisting machine.

Yep, your series makes good sense - windowsill?

re space -
I had a problem with storing paperwork - the 'temporary' solution was small boxes of budweiser ......... :embarrassed:
My lad drinks it - I like darker brews. Anyway those boxes now 'temporarily' reside against two walls hidden behind two three seater couches.
It is amazing the space wasted behind furniture.
I have yet to decide what 'temporary' means, mainly because they are invisible now and I'm so lazy  O0

Re Scotland Skiing - if you are in bad health now - why would you want to go downhill fast? %%

I don't do skiing Dave, I have a job just standing upright at the minute! But I do fancy a close up look at one of these SnowCats though.

Aha, no standing required ! They have little "buggies" like Formula 3 cars, full suspension and a little ski at each corner sometimes one big ski and a couple of Jolly Jack Tars  to guide you down the slope with a handle or guide ropes.  Amputees and blind skiers are all catered for.  They really mean "all abilities".    The pisters could be on the surface of another planet with only Mountain Hares, Snow Bunting and Ptarmigan for company,as they  work from before dawn, sometimes all night, grooming the pistes by headlights. Crack of dawn is best.

We have lots of those cats here in Canada & plenty of mountains & snow to run them on & of course it tends to last , the snow that is up to 6 months a year. They really do a nice job of grooming. Hope you get to the hospital soon, lots of us on here are really pulling for you. My grandmother always said that "the darkest hour was before the dawn". Mick B.
