Big Rother Refurb
« on: July 14, 2012, 03:01:50 pm »

In between various builds I have made a start on this 1/8 scale model of the Mary Gabriel which was stationed at Hoylake, the model is a plank on frame build and skinned with fibre glass on the outside, the age of the boat is somewhere between 28-31 years old but is as solid as a rock still.

I have taken what fittings there were off the superstructure, up to now I have repainted the hull.

Well, that's going to be impressive!

Did you build it?   More pictures!

I've uploaded my photos of Mary for anyone who's building a Rother...http://www.coignlea.me.uk/lance/walkarounds/MaryGabriel/index.html

Hi Guy

With this one I think I may go for the same as is in the Clyde, a couple of mobility scooter motors,  real torquey and should produce a good scale speed....

A little update, the superstructure and deck have been sanded down and repainted, a new bollard was made for the foredeck and the next job is to make new aerials and a mast array from brass.

Thanks John

The new decals arrived this morning from Barrys Model Lettering (Thanks Barry, excellent service as normal.. :-)) ) so these have been applied along with the scramble rope along the hull. The anchor as been put into position but need some work on the release mechanism to make it work...

Thanks Dave

I have done quite a bit to her now, new doors fitted, all window frames fitted and the front side windows are openable now, finshed painting the stanchions and added the grab chain, wooden grab rails fitted, all masts/aerials hinged so as to lower like the real vessel, the anchor mechanism is finished and working so now the next phase is to start inside the wheelhouse.
