herring drifter revamp
« on: August 07, 2012, 07:34:52 pm »

hi all.
here is my herring drifter that i am rebuilding.
i bought the hull from a guy that lives about 25miles from me he had it sailing on his local lake and it got hit by a very large gust of wind and lost the superstructure its still lying in about 30 feet of water as i type.
so i bought the boat from him and have been working on it to rebuild the superstructure and now I'm getting ready to Finnish the painting and add the detail to it.
it has a 12v motor a 12v oil smoke unit and 6v lights in the wheel house and the port holes all light up but i need to figure out how to wire up the mast lights any help or ideas please let me know please.
the boat has a fiberglass hull and every thing else is ply /plastic/ brass/and white metal.  I'm sure this was built from a kit but not sure what kit (any one have any ideas it measures 44in long and 10in wide.) i know you guys like pictures so here are some of the boat in the test tank IE (the bath)  {-)
any help for sourcing deck clutter would be a great help.
i hope to have it ready for its 2nd maiden in approx 3 or 4 weeks depends on my work schedule. so will get picks of it on the lake.
enjoy
regards
Mick

ps im going to give it a reg number  mf 56  thats my initials and age and name it after my wife of 35 years  christine

One thing I do notice MIA is the steam capstan which is available at Scoonies?  as all these boats would have them or something similar

hi wbeedie
thanks mate
scoonies is a great place i bought a shark boat off them years ago because it looked like the boat from jaws film. sailed well to wish they still made them  {:-{
you mean like this lol  %)

scratch built using plastic and wood got the finished shape by putting it in a drill and using a dowel with sand paper wrapped round
turned out quite well i think.
when i took the pics in test tank most of the deck items had been removed so i can re sand the deck and varnish it so they will be re attached when all painting is done.
