Vosper RTTL....
« on: August 15, 2012, 09:02:04 pm »

Right folks I have posted about this before but I am still struggling!! I am currently building one of my favourite boats, a 50" model of the Vosper RTTL which I have posted some pictures of below, I am at the painting process now and I still can not find a colour that I am happy with for the superstructure, I want it to be as near as possible to the one at the raf museum also pictured below but nobody seems to know a name or ral number for this colour, I have had many tins of paint made up but it is not the right colour  >>:-( they are either too grey or too blue  >:-o

the pictures below are of the boat sprayed in filler primer and the next stage is the correct colour. Can anybody shed any light on this mysterious colour for me??

Hi...
I took a sample from the picture you posted with the colour grab on my Mac...
The RGB is
Red:178
Green:188
Blue198

The CMYK is
Cyan:30
Magenta:20
Yellow:16
Black:0

This info might help you if you can find someone to mix it....

According to the sampler it is quite different... paler and more green.  The problem is, your screen is different to mine so what we're seeing wont be the same.
Here is the Farrow and Ball colour next to the colour on the real boat photo...

Hi... There isn't anything similar in Farrow and Ball nor Dulux or Johnstones.  The closest I could find tonally, was 'Crown Pencil Skirt Grey' which is one of their vintage range...
You would still have to mix a little white into it though but the tone is right.  Here it is compared to the original grey I took from the photo...

You can see it needs to be lighter... but its closer.

Actually... Humbrol 64 Light Grey is pretty close... a little bit warmer but similar. You could varnish over the top is a satin?
