Shame no one is making kits of Type 42 destroyers. The old airfix Sheffield went out of production years ago.

Arfix have the HMS York which is the same scale and type as the Sheffield at 1.400

I agree with Paul, take a look at the Airfix Collectors web site they list when every kit was first produced, I can't see a type 42 in the list????

Just had a quick check through the records, it was Revell that did it, not Airfix and on another point, York is a batch 3 type 42 and Sheffield was a batch 1, very different animal.

Dragon and Skywave also did a type 42 but in 1/700 scale. I have heard that this is the same tooling as the Revell kit.

I have had mine for a while now, you could radio it with mini servos (and quite a bit of weight)

The original theme for this topic the airfix seven. I was planing to use the method of using a old servo. The real question was is their enough displacement is the model to support the weight and provide a stable model.

My conversion is just about done.

Powered by a servo motor with a micro servo.

Good points abou the kit:

Detail is superb - would make a great static kit with all the internal details (not used in my conversion).

Transfers are very good.

Bad points:

Sprues are not numbered in any sensible manner. Each sprue is not identified (often use A, B etc) and parts are all over the place. This makes it a real chore to find every part.

Some of the fit of the parts is poor and location holes are not very well defined.

This is definitely not a beginners kit.

Also no figures are supplied with the kit - which is a bit of a shame.

Overall a nice kit but needs a lot of work to make it look its best.

I will sort some photos out shortly.

Photos of the completed boat on bath trial.

Photo without the superstructure shows the tight fit for the battery and receiver.

Just ordered some suitable figures to convert to crew.
