Any ideas as to what these are for ?
« on: August 27, 2012, 03:21:29 pm »

The small black stanchions are called by the Italians, "Bumpers", as close as I can translate.

As you can see, they don't touch the superstructure sides and are made of Steel, the superstructure is Aluminium.

Any ideas anyone ?

I would hazard a guess that they are a built in fendering system to absorb the slight bumps coming alongside.

Possibly Ned, but they are slightly inboard of the rubbing strip.

Maybe when the tourists all rush to get off then the boat heels and then the bumper could well do as you say.

Thanks, appreciated.

They could hook tyres over them.

Perhaps to prevent hooking under a pier during changes in water level, due
to tidal or wave action
