44-020 Orange or silver window frames??
« on: September 04, 2012, 07:49:50 pm »

Hi... I am building a Waveney class lifeboat (44-020) by adapting the Billing coast guard kit.  Half of the pictures I have of the real boat have orange window frames and the other half have silver window frames.  Does anyone know which colourway came first?

The current Whitby pilot boat (aka the old Margaret Graham (44-04?) - ex Harwich lifeboat) still has silver window frames.

Not sure of the significance or reason of the difference.

Mike P (gribeauval) might pick this thread up - he knows a thing of two  :-))

From the photos I've got 44-020 had silver frames throughout her life.

Waveneys 44-020, -021 and -022 had different wheelhouse arrangements to the previous boats, which mostly had orange frames at the end of their lives. Probably coincidence, but you never know.

Also this one... which, although its black and white, shows the frames being the same colour. The photo is called 'Naming John Fison'

Which period do you want to build her at? It seems at the start of her life they were orange, but by the end they were silver.

Hmm... I only just got to grips with which Waveney class boat to build!  I have more pictures of the version with silver frames so I guess I will go for that.
