Twin screw wiring help newbie
« on: October 03, 2012, 10:03:31 pm »

Evening guys, i recently purchased a boat from a car boot sale which turned out to be one of those funfair pay your money and steer it type affairs.

Its built likt a tank, super thigh hull and the like. I t cam with a twin screw set up but no electrics.

Im just pondering on how to wire up the setup so one screw turns the wrong way. I have one speed controller and a 2 chanel reciever, i dont want to spend a lot.

Whats the best way to wite it up so i get clockwise and anti clockwise turneing?

I have a load of bullet clips and im guessing somewere alnong the line im gonna have to make a "y" section to get 4 wites into 2.

Many thanks guys, photos etc would be grear.

Wire one motor the correct way [positive cable to positive terminal] then wire the other motor the wrong way [positive cable to negative terminal]

get a chocolate box connector and connect two red wires to one terminal and two black wires to another.

From the connector connect one red wire and one black wire and connect to the rest of your system

Is that a four funnel destroyer Dicky?  If it is I'd be interested to know what motors and props your'e using as it's on my build list.

Either 2 ESCs, one to control each prop separately, can be a handful on a 2 channel set unless a mixer is used, or hook both motors to 1 ESC (assuming its man enough to handle both) and fit a rudder and a servo to work it.  On a line between the props is OK, but astern of the props is more likely to work.  One rudder per prop is generally better, since the props deflect the propwash.
I didn't see whether the props were opposite handed, this needs Dicky's connection method to run on 1 ESC.
The 2 fins are probably there to act as fixed rudders, angled in they might help it steer straight on one motor, otherwise it would just go in circles is one motor conked out.  They might be a very good clue for where to site working rudders.

Here we go guys, ive gone with the chocolate box set-up as recomended above. Works great, very pleased with myself. Just need a new battery as the one in the picture is about 15 years old at least and is on its last legs.

Good advice on the rudder i was thinking slightly off center.

You could buy, Money permitting buy one of Actions excellent P94 contorllers. Two escs and full mixing. You could spin your boat in its own length. John.
