Wilkie........cedar timber is available in many varieties in OZ........however our [OZ grown] timber seems to be a quicker growing specie with courser grain than other varieties
Canadian random groove cedar wall panelling is an economic way of producing planking

... 4"wide x 3/8"thick x 3' lengths of Canadian grown material can be inspected at larger timber merchants and chosen for the grain structure & hue & then ripped into 3 mm thick planks
The reason I quote in imperial is that the Canadian RED cedar product appears to be universally imported & sold in imperial dimensions
I agree with boatmadman....cedar is a very friendly material to cut, steam, bend, nail & glue & can produce very nice earthy tones with selection & staining......
