canvas funnel?
« on: February 16, 2013, 09:28:13 pm »

Hi guys, could any one tell me what the "canvas funnel shaped" item is called
that is stowed under the flying deck harness back support?on the Trent
I think it is used to create drag to assist steering. If I am wrong I am
sure I will be corrected.

it's a "sea anchor" or "Drogue", John.........for keeping the stern to sea and slowing the lifeboat down in a heavy strong following sea, so that she doesn't broach and the stern overtake the bow, if you see what I mean.

A little diagram on there - if it is the right type for you. Looks quite doable.

Thanks Neil/Norseman,
the sewing machine has been out this morning and hey presto 1 drouge
looks o/k. I know it is stowed/strapped in but I like to make the effort
as a lot of mayhemmers do.
just got to make the hoops and sew them and the tethering ropes on.

cheers guys

Does it have to be stowed? If you have crew figures they could be preparing to deploy/ stow. Just an idle thought (matches the rest of me  O0 )
