55ft thornycroft C.M.B.
« on: April 03, 2013, 12:30:45 am »

:-)   Hi,raflaunches and Dad ,   Back in 1982 ,  I was lucky to be able to run a tape measure and make sketches of C.M.B. 331 , while s he was ashore in Cowes.   Still got them in my archives .   At the time I was subcontracting to Thornycroft  at Bembridge where I was given a set of G/A drawings @1/2inch to 1ft ,plus aTable of Offsets .   Later I got another Works construction drawing showing every piece of timber, every fixture and fitting, including the  waterproof HARDBOARD  for the wheelhouse structure..  this Drg. was @one and a half inches to 1ft,   I later passed it on to B.P.B. Trust to help in the restoration of C.M.B.331......The decent drawings and my sketches all helped to create very pleasing model .. At one time Ithought I would build mine to 12th scale but we don't  have the space to run at scale speed ..I will try to post some pics soon .     Regards to you both,   cherub4.      aka  George .

Hi George

I'm very envious, love to have seen the real CMB 331, the pictures I have of her are very fuzzy or too small to be worth while looking at! I love studying the old drawings, we have a couple of CMB drawings from the National Maritime Museum which show similar details but ones directly from the original builders are fantastic, I only hope that the BMPT put them to good use. Can't wait to see your pictures of your CMB.
My Dad is ecstatic that there is another CMB built from original drawings, Vosper and Thornycroft built vessels are some of our favourite subjects.
Hope to see your pictures soon.
Best regards
