   I have just been informed that the Etherow Show will not be taking place this year? Can anyone verify this please?

Afraid not.  It's been cancelled by the venue.  Jury is still out re next year.  Do let others in your neck of the woods know.  It was only decided by the venue a week or so ago.

I was chatting to the members of Etherow club at Ellesmereport show a few weeks back, and the concensus was that there were too few boaters attending to make it viable.
 
the costs of putting the show on, including the tradition of giving a shield to every entrant of a boat, plus prizes, and other expenses, always came to more than the intake from modellers, and as such they ran at a loss each year...............so I can see why they have pulled the plug, and quite understand.....after all, clubs run on a tight budget and no one these days can run at a loss.
 
Sadly I think that is why Southport gave it away as a concern a few years ago, and unless we as modellers dig deep into our own pockets with respect to entrance fees for our boats, other smaller shows might go the same way. <:( <:( <:( <:( <:(
