Making guns more realistic
« on: May 20, 2013, 05:19:31 pm »

I recently saw a video of MTB 488. The builder had fashioned both guns to rotate and one to rotate and the barrel to elevate  also to flash in time with the sound. I am fairly ok with the rotate  but how did he manage the gun elevate, flash and work in >:-o  sync with the sound. Anyone got any experience of this???
Thank you

well at a guess you could put a cam in the turret so as it turned it elevated, as for the flashing, hmm a lighter flint with a motor to spin the striker? though I guess you could just have a LED flashing?

I believe the tank and armor modelers have a sychronized sound chip and LED for something like that.

I believe Action do a flicker unit to simulate arc welders, gun flashes, etc.

as for the elevating guns, you will obviously have to pivot the barrel
use some small expansion springs to help return the guns to their stop
position, fix fishing line onto the rear or the gun and run it to a servo arm
so that when the servo is operated you get a seesaw action with the spring
returning the guns back to their stop, and the servo elevating them.
you can run the line through tubes to avoid any tangles.
Doing it that way you can elevate as many guns as you want.
Action also do an adjustable servo morph that stretches the servo movement
and slows it down to your chosen speed

hope this has helped, its how I would do it anyway.

This is a good opportunity to use the whole system of a tank
Chinese. You have everything you need for cheap :-))
