Art tech P-51 Mustang
« on: July 08, 2013, 07:41:11 pm »

Hi All, I was given an art tech P-51 mustang today - Can anyone possibly direct me to some instructions for it and any spares please. It has a broken tail plane that I would like to try replace, perhaps someone has a crashed one with an intact tail plane??

I tried the 11.1 lipo that came with it but although it powers the servos, the motor will not run, the battery may be "xxxxx" as it has a squishyness to it, as if the cell packets are filled with air. I am going to look out for another anyway.

Would love to get in touch with anyone who has one of these and can offer any tips etc.

If i cannot get it working at least i will have a brushless motor and some servos for a boat!!

That's been out of production for quite a while, they were cheap and cheerful but pretty good flyers.
I think the only real hope is to scour ebay for them

Main problem is that Art Tech have released several P51s and they are all different and the parts are not interchangable

Thanks essex2visuvesi - I have read some people have glued wings back together using a steel or ali rod to strengthen, any thoughts on a suitable glue?

Cheers

Hi, only got back from hols yesterday - Will get that glue in the next week or so plus a bit of carbon fibre rod and have a go at fixing it - I need to find a suitable battery as well, it seems the pack may not be charging, either that or there is a bad connection in the wiring - I can get the servos to move using the Tx but the motor will not turn when using the Tx.

when powering up the Throttle stick must be in the fully down position (Full reverse) annoying if you have twin centre sprung sticks

Hi E2V

Tried powering up with throttle stick fully down, nothing, reversed switch on radio and tried again still nothing - I tried connecting the battery directly to the motor (red to red / black to black) not sure what the white wire is for though - Anyway motor kinda twitched and thats it - Possibly the motor is shot?

Thanks Wayne

This takes be back to an idiot who had one and flew it off the beach at low tide...it went higher and higher and he let it go further and further out until it lost control and crashed into the sea...we did laugh that day...poor guy.

Nice looking plane I wish I could fly :)
You mentioned the battery being squishy, take care with it check the cell voltages to see they are not to low. If it's "puffed" it may have been run down too low or been in a crash.

Its a brushless motor needs all 3 wires connected in order to run.
I would guess the ESC is more likely the problem.

Does the ESC make any noises when connected?

OK that would help. The beeps can give you a lot of information, also means the ESC is at least getting power to some parts of it

I have found what could be the manual for the ESC
drop me a PM with your email address and I'll mail it to you
