HI all
Are there any model fliers amongst us? If so is there a good forum that you would recommend as I am beginning to development an interest in the hobby. Thank you.

I like www.RCGroups.com, American but the hobby is very international plus they have some boat sections too. :-))

Yep, planks and helicopters. More of the latter now. What are you thinking about? Planks or helicopters?
Another vote for RCgroups. Nice mix of people on there. Another is www.flyingsites.co.uk and if helis are your thing then helifreak is another.

Have a look here at the MCP X & Blade 130x these are BNF but also can get them with tx, they will also do full on 3D flying, my advice don't get anything less than a 4 channel as you will be very disappointed.

Taking off is easy, flying is easy, landing is easy.


The hard bit is landing the plane in one piece.  So far I have crash landed two aircraft (both repaired and flying again) and destroyed a runway light on an operational airfield - BIG OOPS!


It is fun though!

   Yep, 1 tower and nothing for miles but the nutter manages to hit it. %)
 
  Spose the aircraft is OK for a boaty, do its own thing if you stop interfering with it. Glider guiders fly bart a fan. :-))

The 130x is a real handful.... you are better off with the MCPx..... its one of the toughest Collective pitch helis on the market.  As I heard someone say it's tougher than Chuck Norris in a bullet proof vest :D

I have only flown a friends 130x and I thought it a handful compared to the mcpx but then as you say it could be down to his settings. But from what I have read the mcpx is certainly tougher.

They are both though as old boots but there are times something has to give,  {:-{ [size=78%] [/size]

There is a chap on RCgroups called captjac who does online heli training with Phoenix and skype.  He is a nice chap and a bloody good teacher.  He will also teach you how to setup phoenix correctly in order to gain the most benefit from it

RC wise, i use realflight g6 which is a computer sim using the rc sticks.


Crash as many times as you want then...

essex2visuvesi    to start with I shall be looking at fixed wing, but may then move onto helicopters will see how it goes .

Real flight is good for aircraft but the helicopter physics are not quite as realistic as Phoenix. Don't get me wrong it's an excellent bit of software, if a little expensive once you start buying the adding packd

Totally agree, sims only go so far. I had a little second hand boomerang trainer which I had set up incorrectly the ailerons and as a result everything was backwards. Noticed this on take off and opted to try to do a circuit and land with everything back to front.  So as you ac appreciate, on final, the aircraft was to my right and coming towards me, it was the reverse of the reverse. In the end, she rolled too far and ploughed into the ground so close to landing. She'll fly again when I can be bothered.

SIMs are good for practice for orientation, 'stick' familiarisation and coordination.

I've got a RealFlight USB Tx and FMS ..... anyone got Phoenix CD that I could borrow?   :-)

You will need a special "dongle" lead for Phoenix.  I'm happy to loan you the disc but its useless without the lead.
