Nav Lights
« on: July 25, 2013, 01:18:28 pm »

Can anyone tell me what lights a buoy handling boat, such as the Paula 3, would carry, when on operations, in addition to the standard nav lights for a boat her size?

Probably the same lights and shapes carried by a cable ship or any other vessel engaged in similar work. Rather than quoting chapter and verse, perhaps just Googling "Rules and Regulations for the Prevention of Collision at Sea" could solve all your problems. BY.

Up to 10 lamps

Green Starboard, Red Port nav lights
Three white up the front of the forward mast Top being the nav light and the lower two for towing(and length of tow.
Two on the back of the stern mast. Lower white nav light, upper amber for towing

Back to the main mast
To one side Red white Red Stacked to indicate limited maneuverability.
Some ships will double these, and place them on either side of the main mast.

Top of mast
Anchor light, white visible 360°( I never light this one, as the model is no fun at anchor.)

Red above White above Red
Should be visible all round

These show limited maneuverability.

If you have lifted a buoy then you are probably connected to the buoy's
anchor chain so the anchor light should be lit.

By day the red/white/red are replaced by shapes
Red ball White Diamond Red Ball

If I am wrong I await the Flak  {-) {-)
