Dear Stavros, thanks for your reply I understand that you are the paint expert! While I had planned to use teh grey primer for all other parts those to be painted orange I just wondered if the grey would show thru or cause the orange to be dull coloured. ax I said I like the grey it juist goes on well, good adhesion etc. Do you think I would be Ok? Regards Robin

The white has more chance of making the orange lighter than the grey making it darker...........I use grey primer underneath ALL the cars I spray

I have fitted two brushless outrunner motors which I got from Giant Shark these being 168471 xyh50-55-400kv it recommends a 70a ESC. I have tried everywhere I know to get one which is compatible for use with a boat of this size..any ideas? Regards Robin

I run those same motors in my 1/12th Tamar and use this ESC = http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=24569

It is one of the few high amp units with actual reverse functions, many are just "reversable".  Remember to buy a programming card too and set the "start mode" to Level 2.

In the Tamar this set up pulls less that 20amps at full throttle.

Most of the time I use a pair of these batteries = http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=26713

The boat also runs quite well on 4S batteries too

Hi kinmel, start mode, why level 2? the default / factory setting is 6.
are the lower no,s settings a softer start?

With high start values those motors push out enough start up torque at full throttle to destroy the coupling between motor and shaft.  The lower setting provides a steady increase in torque that the coupling can cope with.  These are high performance motors and the high setttings are designed for props in air not water.

It is this ability to manage settings that make brushless a much more useful option.

Mark at MMB is well versed at making suitable couplings.

Cheers mate, I will set mine at setting 2
I put 2 sleeves of heatshrink over my couplings to give
added strength.

just because I have not been posting doesn't mean I am not busy building, try and do a couple of hours each day!! Still got problems with sizing photos, just waiting for our IT guy to come out and sort for me. Build going well, spent a great deal of time in the cockpit area. Trying to make it interesting with as much detail as possible..as my wife is an abstract artist I am leaving some to the imagination and you have to fill in the bits. If someone wants to look in the windows and be critical that's fine by me!

I need to order a full set of decals but need window wiper manufacturers labels etc etc ..keep closed etc etc..where is the best place to get these from? Barry can supply but I don't think the more detailed labels. Let me know please.

I have primed the bottom and all prepared for first coat....accept I don't know where the water line comes up to. The base line on my drawing seems to be in space??? Normall straight forward set on the level and with my pencil marker round I go..I don't know the start point ..and getting confused.

I have installed some of my electrics. Nice to have bags of space. I need to cool the ESC but don't want to use scoops as they will show near the props. Would like to fit a pump system so that the water can exit out of the hull sides. Most of the pumps I have found are only for intermittent use in many cases. Again any ideas?

I have been thinking about smoking exhausts and fitting a system out of a model tank but don't know whether this will generate enough to be seen. Dint like the idea really of an oil system bit messy perhaps.

Thanks and Regards Robin

Hi there Robin, have a look at the standard marine signage 1/12 scale.

http://www.cornwallmodelboats.co.uk/acatalog/becc_signage.html#aB_2dSMS01_2e12

Barry's model lettering always very helpful, I'm sure he'll be able to supply specific markings and lettering if you send him a copy/ photos of the original and how big it needs to be.

I didn't want to be as abrupt as Mick, but it's like going to see an epic film with a blind fold on............you know the story but can't see any of the action............doesn't really capture the imagination. {:-{ {:-{ {:-{ {:-{ {:-{

agree with neil.

In my opinion, there's a distinct lack of big builds like speedline stuff etc which is a shame.

most annoying person (in a good way) is phil locke! still waiting nearly a year since his last website update. :police:

But yeah, would be nice to see some pics...

I have sympathy Robin if you find pix difficult.
Photos are a problem for me too using iPhone - I did ask on the image thread recently but  {:-{ so far.

Could I suggest someone offer to put up a couple of pix if Robin could email them over. Ok not something to make a habit of but ... It's almost Xmas.

Hi Robin
In reply to your query about decals for your Speedline Severn, when I built mine a few years all the decals were included in the kit. They were all there, no problem.
