Neil , I have a reasonable camera that doesn't mean I am a good photographer..absolute rubbish I will get some photos out next week. I have put together the window frames today and they are now ready for painting. Bit of a fiddly job but got there. Got one piece missing which is the inner bit not really seen. I will make a piece up as it will annoy me. Checked my workshop over and couldn't find it perhaps not there in the first place. I usually lose something end up making it spending hours and then go and find it..still that's entertainment for you!

photos next wek lads...I notice down both sided there are access panels some of these have 4 small aperture with what looks like a dome inside. What are these for and what did you make this out of as they all need to be of the same size? Your advice would be appreciatted. Thanks Robin

Robin,

I think these are vents for the wheelhouse.  They might by in the vac form parts for your boat?  If not, I found what I think are feet for a doll's house at my local craft shop to use for the equivalent parts on my Trent albeit at 1/16.  Just looked at the spare packet I have and it says they're made by Hobby's - Model Maker's Materials.  They might do a bigger size that suits 1/12.

This issue seems to be an ongoing frustration with this excellent forum - the file size limit is very small and presents problems for those who are not well versed in reducing photo sizes. However there is an answer......

If you are using a Windows based computer, I suggest you try Robosizer. It provides automatic resizing of photos as they upload and will happily and automatically reduce file sizes to something that this forum considers to be acceptable as you upload them.

Robosizer is available free from www.robosizer.com

The direct link to the download page is http://www.robosizer.com/download.html
(Disclaimer - I am not associated with the product, just a happy user)

yep both of those suggestions work well for uploading your photos.
We are not expecting anything in the class of David Bailey(who he?) but any photos of your build would be good!

Robosizer has corrupted my emails!!!!!!!!! I have had problems with getting hooked into outlook express which brings up my emails. This has happened two days running and caused me lots of grief. I am involved with our family haulage and warehousing companies and need to keep in touch with people. The guy that looks after our It sorted this out today but traced the problems to Robosizer, he has knocked this out and now all is fine in so far as emails are concerned. I will try and use the other suggested software to see if that works. That's technology for you. Regards Robin

Well I have never heard of that before!!
A simple?? way of reducing photo sizes.....
save the photo to your desktop.Open your E mail Programme. Send the photo to yourself as an attachment. This will ask "keep original size or make smaller?" select smaller and send. When it arrives, save attachment to desktop.Rename it. Open photo with your photo programme, click save to desktop make my file smaller.Saved photo should then be suitable for uploading!!
You seem to be having trouble with the (non) complications of Robosizer,so this would be simple for you, with your skills at putting things into the family warehouse lol :D :D ;) ;) {-) {-) {-) {-) {-) {-)

Is there a problem with Robosizer?
I have installed it and tested it and it does what it
says on the can.
No problems with mail or anything else.
Anyone else had problems before I hit the uninstall button?

@Robin Smith:
My apologies - I was the one who recommended Robosizer in this thread, having used it myself without issue for quite some time.
 :(( :(( :(( :((

I am aware of a number of users on another forum that are using Robosizer without any problem also; the recommendation for myself came from there and I have found it to be excellent and trouble free.... :-))

they are indeed solid balls like big ping pong ones which slide up and block the vent pipes when large waves hit the sides.
we have just got back from cornwall, the lady in the falmouth station had the new severn class boats reserved for my uncle and i,what we didnt know was we were going on a guided tour of the boat and also of the station and the coast rescue craft.

I am ok soldering brass but whats the score with stainless steel..had a little experiment and found it quite hard. the parts for the stern are stainless thsi includes the exhaust ports and covers. Any ideas on what I need to be doing. Certain photos I have seen show these previous made of brass. Your advice welcome. Thanks Robin

If you or anyone else come to that, has one of these Severn's and comes to the conclusion that you'll never get around to building it and may be considering selling it, Let me know, I really, really want one.... :-)

The shop staff and the boat guides at Falmouth are really nice people. The boat tours are available at weekends and half term  during the winter months. If you are coming to the Blackpool Model Boat Show this weekend there is a superb 1/12th scale working model of the Falmouth Severn,on the L.B.E.S. Display along with other fine models of course.

My build is progressing well. I am currently working on interior fittings which is taking sometime, inside is primed and painted and the deck has been primed. Several small fittings have been soldered together. Motors fitted with the UJ 's received from Prop Shop. Also received the seats from Adrian which have been put together and now need rubbing down and painting. Got these from Adrian very quickly.
Just about to order all the electronic components from Action Electronics once they advise me prices etc.
Had one problem with the side valve compartments need to prime and paint these before fitting side panels. Cleaned and degreased and used white primer from Halfords unfortunately some of these crazed like dried up bottom of river bed. Had to rub down and re prime why this happened I don't know. Didn't want to use grey primer as this may cause probelms with the orange. The grey primer I use on all my models covers a multitude of sins don't think the white quite so forgiving.
My apologies for no photos but still having sizing problems waiting for our IT man to sort this for me.

Dear Stavros, thanks for your reply I understand that you are the paint expert! While I had planned to use teh grey primer for all other parts those to be painted orange I just wondered if the grey would show thru or cause the orange to be dull coloured. ax I said I like the grey it juist goes on well, good adhesion etc. Do you think I would be Ok? Sorry guys to be a pain need some advice. Saw a post which recommended these motors for the Severn so I got onto Action. Copy of what I sent:

Dear Kyje,

My build is progressing and  am at that stage where I need to place an order with you guys for the Speedline 1/12 Severn as per the first link dijkstra.

I have got the main drive motors which are Giant Shark 50 55-400kv brushless outrunners.

To drive these I would need 2  70a ESC..could you supply these?

I am not very good at electronics and would have to be guided by you.

What batteries would you recommend do these have to be lippo and if so what voltage?

Would you also be able to supply all items shown in the link plus cabling etc.

I would also need all the batteries as recommended by you.

I would like to one stop shop for all items ..less of course the obvious such as lights etc.

In terms of the sound system this is fine but I also need a system to record radio chatter?

The speakers ideally instead of the single speaker would it be possible to supply 2 smaller units which I could fit better?

Please advise listing with all items you can provide plus cabling batteries etc and   price so that I can arrange payment.

Thanks

Regards

Robin Smith

Hi Robin,
The motors may be different but a good start would be to take a look at the following drawing:

http://www.action-electronics.co.uk/pdfs/Speedline%20Severn%20Ver2%20-%20Erik%20Dijkstra.pdf

This is a good set up for the Severn.

The following drawing shows a set up for a 1/12 scale version but does not have all the features of the previous:

http://www.action-electronics.co.uk/pdfs/Severn%201~12%20-%20Peter%20Flew.pdf

Have  look at them both and see which would be more suitable, we can then work from there to adapt it to your model.
This is the reply that I got back; Hi,
All of the ACTion units are designed to be used with Brushed motors.  The Speed controllers, mixers and distribution boards would not be able to provide enough current to run the brushless motors.  The maximum current any of our Speed controllers could handle would be 30A and this is our High Power ESC.

You would really need to use LiPo batteries with Brushless motors as these are the only type that are really able to keep up with the sudden surges in current that brushless motors demand.  Exactly which LiPo depends on the running voltage of your motors and their current drain, and also the amount of space you have available.

The sound system would work but but none of our units will record sound once in the boat.  The P100 have .WAV files loaded onto it using the P100 Programming CD and USB Cable.  The P100 is not really designed to run 2 speakers so I would stick with one.

I really dont know where you are going to go with this! Dave Milbourne of Action fame has taken the time and trouble to plan out everything you need as requested by you. The diagram clearly explains that you need a 4 channel radio,2 groupner speed 600bb motors, and various Action equipment such as a P100 ,P101,P94 etc etc ALL NAMED. Two Batteries,a 4 channel receiver.Even the wiring is coloured for you.Even a Radar motor. Just follow it It looks complicated but if you gather all the components together and lay them out on a flat surface you should clearly see where they all go.
I will be using basically all he have listed for my 1/12th scale Tamar, with very few variations. As they say "Just DO IT.

I'd use white primer for  under any orange parts if I were you. I used grey under my Trent and it was way too dark when the orange was applied, I know a few folk who've used grey and regretted it. I ended up re priming it in white and it looked much better and brighter.

If you intend to fit brushless motors then no ACTion speed controllers are suitable. That is NONE.
