Made a start on my new project . I always fancied one of these back when they were still in production , but due to financial restraints was never able to afford one . A couple months ago this came up on ebay and it was local . A price was agreed and the kit was duly collected . I spent some time talking to the owner of the trent kit ( whilst admiring his boats ) He had bought the kit 2nd hand from someone , who had started the kit but given up very early . All the die cut pieces were loose kicking around the bottom of the box , but at some point someone had sourced a complete new die cut set for it , so it came with a great many duplicated parts .

On closer inspection of the hull when i got home i noticed that it had a hard life with a lot of chips and cracks around the edges of the hull and a nasty twist down its length . Also a few cracks in the gelcoat . Not worried about this though it can be repaired easily enough .

So removed the bilge keels that were badly damaged and replaced those with new ones from the fresh new die cut sheets . Dug out some motors that i think will be suitable , i hope . I cant find anywhere that stocks the recommended ones . Got the deck beams built and fitted the decks . Time for me to address the hull now its a bit more rigid and the twist taken out . Time to dig the filler out .

Hi rich , thanks for the comments . Yeah the superstructure looks a daunting task , but i enjoy a challenge .
Had a couple of slow days at work waiting for parts and such , but i had a bit of priming to do . So i took the model to work with me . Got the filling dealt with , mixed some paint up and managed to make some progress .

Its a 1977 mk2 capri awaiting restoration . There are plans afoot to turn it into a JPS replica . Its next in line after the mini is completed .

Been pretty busy lately .So havn't been able to post for a while . Managed to finish off the hull kind of . The shade of blue i used could have been a bit darker , but the camera flash makes it look lighter than it is .

Could anyone point me in the direction of some wheelhouse interior pics for a trent please .

After bringing the boat home at the weekend i thought i would make an early start this morning on painting the hand rail supports . But lo and behold an invader ( eldest daughter ) to my hallowed cellar workshop . Normally this would be a hanging offence

but i showed clemency as the girl is showing genuine interest in the hobby , albeit she prefers to build cars than boats but its a start

..
So after she eventually finished up what she was doing i managed to get a bit done . It was all going really well till i started to fix on the D rubber around the hull . I didnt run in to any problems with the boat but with the length of rubber hanging off the table its soon broke down into a tug of war with the cat . I included a pic of the lil fluffy assassin . Thats it for now ill post more when i get some more done ..

A pain in the ...... lol no it belongs to my business partner . We have been restoring it in between paying jobs for the last year or so . Its a 1988 mini Sky . If that means anything to you , never was a fan a minis myself to be honest but then i am 6'2 . Its pretty much been reskinned and is nearly ready for rebuilding and paint .

Thanks for the pics pipster those are going to be a massive help .

Some of the more observant of you will have noticed from my earlier posts , that the Trent was missing a rudder . This is due to me being a clumsy sot and managing to snap one off . Thankfully when i emailed Model Slipway they offered to cast me a new set , for which i am eternally grateful . So with the new rudder fitted i can concentrate on the scary looking superstructure . I did on bit more painting on the wheelhouse interior . Not a huge amount done but we have been busy at work the last week .

I did notice the missing rudder. The same thing happened to my Model Slipway Trent. Model Slipway could not offer me a replacement but I found some Robbe rudders that are the same shape. They are about 5mm longer so I might trim them.

Feels like i am making some progress now some of the bigger pieces are going together . Some of the smaller stuff is a test of patience when you have hands like shovels .
Found myself with a couple spare hours this evening so got the rear vent cases together and fitted some of the really nice etched brass fittings .

The trent has been put on the shelf for a while while i research and work out how i want to do a few things . Didnt really get much done over winter as we had a busy few months at the garage . Will have to pull my finger out soon though if i want to some water with it this year .

Well most of the things i have been collecting for this build are here now . So i pulled her back off the shelf and tried to remember where i had got to . The colour on the superstructure is not the final colour . I have been messing about with what paints i had left over at the garage . Had a reasonably quiet weekend . Got most of the deck mounted handrails done . Fitted the exhausts and trim tabs . Then i broke out in cold sweats as i remembered what a challenge the superstructure is . Made some progress though .

Thanks for the positive comments . We are in our busy period at work and i have not had chance to do anything with the boats since may

. With four cars awaiting restoration and 2 track cars to finish for customers , i cant see me doing much with them until it quietens down again .

How make you to coat joints and inevitable disparities

As stated above the orange paint is not the final colour i was messing about with shades .It is going to be repainted anyway . I would rather mess around with colour shades now than when the boat is finished . Glued joints are obviously sanded back or stripped with thinner .

I think thats what you are trying to ask anyway im not sure i understand
