model slipway trent set up
« on: October 22, 2013, 09:02:00 pm »

hi
currently I have  2 x 600 motors on 2.5-1 belt drives in my trent
I can only run them on 6v as I have 2 x hunter 6v escs the motors are rated to run at 7.2v
I run them on 2 x 6v 3700 nimh batteries the question I would like to know is as I can only run at 6v due to the speed controllers is,
would I get better speed making them direct drive and taking away the belt drives ?
the speed I would say is not to bad but feel it should have a bit more speed .
I was going to put higher rated esc to run more volts but the hunter escs seem superb
any advice appreciated
cheers

what size props are you using? they may be too big for direct drive from
your 600 size motors.

Hi Luke, I don,t know what type of 600 motors you are using, ECO,Turbo, etc.
but I think the 45mm props are too big for direct drive from a 600 motor.
I will be corrected if I am wrong but I don,t think I am.
You would be better fitting 800,850s if you have room but then you loose out
on running time.

Doing it that way you can at least keep the same set up
but if your old motors are higher revving than the Graupner
your boat will run slower.

Hi Luke,
On mine I had 2 x ECO 600s direct drive @ 8.4v on 45mm props with action electronics gear, came onto the plane nicely and had about 20 mins.
On the Tamar I have dropped to 35mm props, 2 x ECO 600 direct drive.

Hi Luke,

To add my twopenn'orth, I'm using 600 Ecos direct drive on 9.6v with 35mm props.  I was using 40mm props but dropping prop size increased run times with no appreciable drop in speed.  However, the motors are hot after a run, so water cooling would not be a bad idea.

cheers for answers but I see everyone using more than my 6v
ill have to have a think and see if its worth my while to get rid of my trusty 6v hunter sytems escs
and get some 12v mtroniks or something so I can up my voltage , spoken to hunter few weeks ago and he said do not put more than 6v through my escs
so have to get some costs me thinks     :((
