epoxy finished hulls

Ok chaps   as you may or not be aware I am building a Chris Craft model and the finish is a very gloss mahogany finish .
My question is on if I should use finishing resin or laminating resin for the job ?

I want a high gloss finish here and am well prepared to polish but make it easy on me chaps  ;)

Hi Shane,
I would imagine the finishing resin wood be okay but you may need to thin it a bit.  :-[  I use both on my 'real' boat or you could buy some West Epoxy which will give you a stunning gloss easily without yellowing with age and can be a UV protector as well. The best people to talk to are CFS in the west country at cfsnet.co.uk. (chech thier website)They have always supplied me with quality products and will have time to talk to you. Generally I start or finish most of my model with some sort of resin because if it's good enough for my 'full size' boat it must help on my models. When I first started making plywood hulls it took 20 to 30 coats of gloss paint over gauze to get to where I wanted to be for strenth and waterproofing, so much easier today. ::)

Hi there shane

This photograph shows a type of finish that can be achieved with Epoxy SP system.

This is just two coats of Epoxy Resin.

Nice one John http://shutter01.pictures.aol.com/data/pictures/05/002/1F/7F/C8/FF/oHFGsgrPFI9tQ8Hlsf-1Lg1ogl8urnR7001A.jpg  I was looking towards about 7 coats total  5 of laminating resin to get it smooth as glass then 2 of finishing resin to get the hi gloss finish I am looking for .
As you may or may not know I have access to most all finishing materials (being a car painter) but would prefer to get the finish I want with whats available to everyone . that way everybody can learn from the experience as most dont have access to the facilities I do .

I expect arms like popeye by the time I am done with this   :) :) :)

I am already planning a fire boat for my second build and if I can get the plans sent here as promised from another thread about Dusseldorf fire boat  . I can start buying and cutting wood !  So If you are reading this and are the one that offered the plans    GET THEM IN THE POST !  ;D ;D ;D ;D
