Hi ministeve,
My favourite classic motor  ;D  8)
Are you going to do the full restoration yourself? If so I hope you enjoy it.

Good luck with the restoration
Thanks

Oh yes my favourite classic too. I owned many souped up specials including a MkII with a modded 1293 motor that was so quick it only lasted 10days before I frontended it head on into a Sierra overtaking when I should of been a little more patient.
Of all the minis I owned the one I loved the most was my brand new Mini30 I picked up on Aug 1st '89. I'd covered the 1000 careful miles of running in in a week and the dealer was shocked when I booked in for the free service. They had to replace the synchro between 1 and 2 as it would grind going up the box. I covered 175,000 miles in it by the end and opnce the year warranty was up I spent every penny on mods. Back then it wasnt so common to see minis on 13 inch wheels - mine was on colour coded 4 spoke revolutions to match the paint I could stretch a set of 175*50 13'' Yokohamas to 3000 miles before I had to reshod them.
A list of mods : Aldon distruibutor, Stage 3 unleaded head, lcb manifold,RC40 exhaust, re-needled carb copper head gasket ultimate engine stabiliser, second tank, kenwood hifi - I could go on. The 30th birthday party Rover held at Silverstone was a blast!!!
After resting at my grans for a few years awaiting a restoration I flogged it for £120. The garage was that damp when we pulled it out onto a lorry it looked like it had a fluffy steering wheel cover - it was mould on the leather, the seats were similar.
Sad I know. I miss it lots.
I'm familiar with the z'cars bike engined conversion - I just wish I had a garage and more time on my hands.

We were driving up from the Fencebay (by Fairlie) Sunday Market today over the Dalry Moor road and passed loads of Minis, mainly proper ones but some Golf clones too.Must have been an owners rally. Included   at least one proper mini convertible (but no mokes alas) ;D

The last Mini I had was extremely modified, it reached a speed of 135mph, and it would have gone faster but it was changing lanes all be itself it had become to light, my mate put backwards into a telegraph pole at 85 mph, didn't do it much good.............

That my first car, was a sad day when she went to her new owner only for the numpty to strip her to a bare shell and left her to rot in his driveway :'(

if they wasnt so expensive to buy these days i would have another without even looking twice.

Saw some fantastic Mini Marcos (es / Mini Marcosii ???) at the car Rally held at Tredegar house here in Newport yesterday. Not unlike the Golf they start really pretty and quaint and descended into abominations which each successive Mk.
Big boy Marcoses the same I'd love an original.
Best Minis I ever had were vans far nicer, less 'choppy' ride than the saloon.
There's a firm somewhere in England doing rear motorcycle engined versions of the saloon and you can see videos on their site:  Z cars I seem to remember.
Many happy years behind the wheels of Minis with some hilarious tales I shan't bore you with here...

Well done that man!!! O0

I have three of the little blighters.
A yellow, cut down autotest special with hydraulic handbrake for round the cones fun. It has a standard 998cc, cos I kept blowing up 1275's.

A blue 1971 Austin (tax excempt!!), that has been built to hillclimb/sprint spec. It has a 1340cc full race engine, built entirely by myself. Approx 125bhp. Flip/removable steel front etc, a much loved wee car.

The replacement shell for the blue racer. It was a 1988 mayfair, now has the bulkhead cut out for fitting something "special" up front. Im sick of blowing/rebuilding the A series!!

Glad to see so many boaties are also mini fans.

Do yourself and garages that may have to repair it if you ever have to get it repaired after an accident . Make darn sure you get down in writing how many coats of both the white undercoat and hoe many layers of the blue you used to get it painted .

I write this as more of a favour to other paint sprayers out there . The ST I believe is the one that comes on orange or blue . We have had 5 orange ones in so far and 2 blue and the minimum we have had to do is repaint 5 times ! On either colour !
The problem is the translucence of the colour giving it the look it has . This is down to the colour of the base coat and the amount of top coats it gets and the Blue , ok its trouble , is nothing compared to the orange ! Indeed we cringe when we see one parked up waiting for repairs  :-\
These are 2 colours you would do well to avoid but rather pick something close from the mainstream ones  O0

Sorry just peed off with Blummin Ford ST colours , BOTH OF EM !

Me being a little to big to fit in a Mini. I opted for the Austin 1800. Sort of like a Mini on steroids. But I have always loved the Mini.

Shane,
I was told the Orange Ford Focus paint cost a fortune, on top of the cost of the car, is the blue paint cheaper to buy ??.

John.  :-\

To myself the orange and the blue both cost the same as we mix all our paints as and when we need them and to whatever colour or shade we want by adding different tints to the mixture .
As far as buying it retail I wouldnt hazard a guess but I dare say as they are "special " colours the cost would rise in any case .

Personally I cant see why a blue or an orange would cost more any than the other as they are both basically the same apart from the different amounts of tint needed to create the colour .
Oh and to qualify that (as I looked today ) there are less colours needed to make up the orange than the blue . So theroretically the blue should cost more ? Then add into the equation that the same amount of different tints are needed to make up the same amount of paint (in weight ) then they should cost the same ?

Ask at a shop I just dont know how they cost these things for retail , apart from making the biggest markup they can  >:(

Shane,

Just googled for  "Ford Focus ST",  searched around and found a price for the orange paint.
Quoted at  "Electric Orange paint £695" and "£350 for Metallic", which is possibly the Blue.

Wonder if they would sell a ST in the buff !  - - - - Bare metal !!.
How can they justify a price like that ??.
