Ipodules?!
« on: December 04, 2013, 09:03:07 pm »

Little Miss mayhem's school did a deal on an Ipad.... question one.

1. How do I restrict her downloading or purchasing crap from the Apple AppStore?

Make sure your card details aren't saved in the App store Martin, otherwise you could find your bills suddenly going up high, even the free apps normally have in-app purchases, which can be costly.
I don't own any Apple products myself, but there must be an option somewhere, that will either log you out or not save the details.
Good luck!

Not sure how these things normally work but my works iPhone requires a password at the App Store before I can purchase. (I only use free apps so I don't kill a forest in paper when repaying my employer). Maybe you can password protect too?

You can buy iTunes topup cards in the shops, simply buy one and use it to open an iTunes store account, without a credit/debit card even being listed. Whenever she wants iTunes store credit, she (or rather you) has to buy a topup card.

There are also parental limits you can set to stop her buying things that are innappropriate for her age.

Once your Apple account is set up you can remove your card details and it will always ask for the password to the account if you wish to download from the Apple Store , which under normal usage will not be needed by the user. My wife has an iPad which I setup for her and she does not even know the password for it, and the iPad has never requested in four years.

Here's how to do it. When she's not around to watch over your shoulder, go into the "Settings" app. of your iPad.
Then open "General", followed by "Enable Restrictions".
This should be password protected by a 4 digit number, different to the opening page number. Set this password number to something she doesn't know (but make sure you can remember it!).
In this page, there is an option to stop many of the features you are worried about. Just slide the buttons next to "Installing Apps" and "In-App Purchases" like the picture below. You can bar the "iTunes" store too here if you want. Depending upon her age, you can restrict access to explicit content too on the same page.
Come out of "Settings" and you and she are safe.
By going back to "Restrictions", you can change these settings at any time to let her download under supervision; just don't let her see the password number! Hope that helps.

see Apple's advice on this too:- http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4213

Dave,
It depends upon which iPhone you have. My iPhone 4s has pixel dimensions of 3264 x 2448.It's difficult to tell the file size because JPG compression will be different for every photo but generally they'll be in the 2 - 4 MB range.

Hi Chris
I mostly use iphone 4s for Mayhem so I wanted to know size just so I could post. Maybe I''ll just email myself and reduce the file size that way when it gives me an option. Thanks for replying.

Here's one I made earlier. I took this on my iPhone and reduced it in iPhoto on the Mac.
