Trawler Maggie M net pond help needed
« on: December 10, 2013, 08:07:44 pm »

My first build .....and I'm almost ready to begin assembly and painting of the rear gantries and net ponds/access hatch etc...

This is to be Maggie M MBE as modified, having the power block on a cross beam spanning the aft deck.  The supplied model shows has in her original trawler mode with a large and small round ended net pond, one either side of a further storage pound and the main access hatch in the centre.

I've opened up the aft of the boat and am ready to install a 'roller beam' .... but am at a loss as to how the aft deck is configured regarding the net storage areas, the hatch area and the port vent.

Can any of you lovely people offer any help....please

Many thanks in advance

Jon

Baz.  I had found the first two but not the third one so many thanks.  Looks like work in progress on the conversion.

I ca fudge it a little as that portion of the rear deck is removable and can be modified at a later date..... but I have a feeling the rear access hatch may have been done away with and a door inserted at the rear of the wheelhouse !

I'll keep calm and carry on.

Jon, I found this photo, if you look closely, (you might have to save and zoom in) you'll see a blue sign at the back of the wheel house, it looks to me  like an open door going into the wheelhouse. This is how the other Campbelltown boats where built, think this is the only one built without a rear door.

Gosh...it was changed somewhat.  These are truly useful pics.  Many many thanks for posting them.

Now underway with the foremast and the wheelhouse.....it all seems to take forever

Happy modelling and thanks again

Cheers Chris  :-))

Hi Jon enjoy your build, here is a photo of a fantastic scratch built model of the  Maggie M built by a member of my local club, I think she is about 3ft long. He is going to give me a hull off the plug one of these days ha-ha.

Oh my goodness.......... I've a lot to live up to haven't I.  A wonderful build Chris.

Did you include any working lights flood or nav lights (and any front mast lights ...which I believe are green and red not white ???) and where did the second roof (finder ?) winch come from ?

I'm presently trying to assemble the roof mounted mast array with 2.5mm brass and difficult to work with carbon rods (a rotating radar is planned...ho ho hope)

But you have a stunning looking boat....so I'll keep on trying my best.

That is also some kind of wonderful model Chipchase......... I think I need a milling machine, a pedestal drill and a lathe and better eyes and fingers and a crew of nanobots to help me !
