Electric Motors
« on: January 28, 2014, 07:00:15 pm »

HI,

I am building my first scratch build boat, a model of the Cerberus.  I bought some items before constructing the hull and now rue my lack of research.  Most bits are ok but the two 540 motors I bought will not fit in the hull side by side.  I could mount them offset in tandem but that may give me even more ballast problems later and wil use up a lot of space.  I have decided to try and source two smaller motors as I can use the 540s in my next build.

Any advice on the smallest diameter motor that I can get.  The Cerberus is a monitor/breastworks battleship and has the performance of a floating brick in the water so power is not critical. The model is 600mm long.

Many thanks.

Two 385 motors should do the trick, but make sure they aren't 380/400 types. There's a world of difference in the speed (you want the slower ones e.g. http://http://mfacomodrills.com/motors/385ln.html)

Many thanks, those motors look ideal.

Cheers
