my barn find...
« on: May 29, 2014, 02:23:28 pm »

hi it may interest some..but here goes my barn find..its a 1986 ford escort ghia 1600..it was found in a barn by scrapmen.one day while I was driving by..with a collection of other fords..2 mk1 ford capris 1 ford escort mk2 and this mk3 escort..the barn had not been open in years..i mention barn it was a very large shed...the mk3 escort was at the front..so it was the first to come out..pulled with my landrover.once out the keys was still in the ignition so placing jump leads on the battery..and cranking over it started...so I gave the scrapman what he wanted for it.and pulled it home....I say pulled it home..the escort drove home at the back of me..on a tow rope with no faults...I whent back for the other cars..but they had gone.now the mk3 escort which I have it was bought in 1986,and was put away, till 2005 and used till 2007..as I took it for a mot test after a new battery fitted lol,it came up on dvla records its only 3 mot tests inc mine lol..it past first time..within days later it had a full service and a real good going over.now it dives like new.looks like new..i fell in love with the car ..as soon as placed a new battery on it.it started playing 80s music the worzels rod stewart duran duran and abba and being a 1600 ghia its nice, but I have older cars lol

That is one well looked after car, cannot see any rust at all! Should look superb when tinkered with.

I like it.

BEAUTIFUL! Discovery, you lucky man! You must have been inspired to drive by and save her at just the right time, a real piece of motoring history. Brought back happy memories of my first car, an '86 D reg Orion 1.6i Ghia, I seem to remember paying 1500 pounds, this would have been in the early 90's...happy days  %)

Mike Brewer and Edd China might like to see that. My first car was a Ford escort, bev317g. That was about 1980 ish, funny how I still remember the number plate, don't even know my own mobile phone number now. Really nice find. :-))

A TV200???  Wel Jel!!  I feel poor in comparison with my 1963 Li125 on an A.  A year of a labour of love rebuilding if from scratch frame upwards - couldn't believe it passed the MOT and the DVLA test first time.

iv had the tv200 for some time..i bought it as a sx200..its a british lambretta with 13 owners....it looks like a sx200..my insurance company asked what model it was..i told them its a sx200..when i first got it.as i only had the small green slip..when the logbook arrived the model says tv200.....so i did some tracing ..it was common in 60s to change the body to the new sx200 look...and this being reg.just a month or 2 before the new sx200 was on sale.the shop may have revamped it to sell..the scooter has always been in the london area...so its defo a mod scooter..its as new as it left the factory with the orginal  number plate..dvla keep asking do i want to sell the plate

The stamping on the frame at the rear quarter rh side will identify whether it was factory designated as TV.  Additionally its worth getting a dating certificate from the LCGB who have all the records from British registrations and access to the original factory Innocenti records.

it seems there are a very large number of barns which must be full of old cars ! the escort however is very tidy indeed . i once owned a mk3 estate , which was a 1600 diesel model , bought as the gearbox had failed for the second time on my mk5 van , it was actually a better drive than the van !
