Hi all, quite new to the whole boating scene, more cars and helis really so please forgive me!. I have just bought a lovely 2nd hand nangee tug, it's beautiful it really is..... But, here's the problem. It's fitted with 2 motors two electronize electronic speed controllers and a single servo, this is what the boat came with and the guy told me it all works and I believe him as he was a real gent. Te boat came with a old crystal type reciever I told him to keep it as I've got a spare etronix 2.4 system. As soon as I got home I fitted the 2.4 reciever plugged in the servo lead and the two speed controller leads tried to bind the reciever to the controller and nothing, not even the reciever lite up. The 12v battery has a full charge the leads all seem connected. I'm stuck! I can't work it out. There is no on/off switch on the boat but I just presumed once the battery is connected it would light the reciever up and I'd be able to bind it all. If any off you chaps have any advice it would be greatly appreciated

They are the 43x type esc

you will need to use a seperate rx battery , the electronize hasnt got a bec from it

upload a pic iff possible or see what the type of speed controller they are, there should be a number written on them. I always bind my 2.4 out of the boat on a receiver pack and spare servo. then plug it all in the boat. It could be that the the speed controllers are not BEC enabled and you would need a spare receiver pack. Best to get a pic if possible though!

did you have a separate battery pack plugged into your receiver to power it? as I do not think the 43X speed controllers have a BEC built into them - I think it was the 43HX which had the BEC built into them.   To check, there should be an orange and red wire which comes out of the speed controller which should have a switch on it - if the speed controller has this then there is a BEC fitted. Also, some of the very old Electronize speed controllers were built with a permanent BEC built into them, but I dont think its this one (the 43X) if you havent already tried - try connecting up a separate battery pack to your receiver.

Thanks for all the replys chaps  there are four wires which come out if the left hand side of the 43x blue and yellow to the motor and red and black to the battery, on the other side there are a red/white/black wires which are twisted together which plug into te reciever. Hope that's clear. If it's just a case if the speed controllers don't have a bec how long would the seep rate battery pack last? I remember using them on old Rc cars just 4AA battery's. What would the separate battery pack power though? Just the reciever?. Many thanks

I would expect the battery pack to last about an hour and a half - if not longer.    The battery pack should have adquate power to power the two speed controllers and the rudder servo.

Is there another power pack I could use rather than the old four AA battery one? Another option is the mtronics 15 amp esc but would I need two of them? Excuse my ignorance  I really am a novice

the other alternative - if you look on Component Shop website under ACTion section you will find that they do a stand alone BEC. They also do a power board which has another BEC incorporated in it - which I think would be better than buying 2 MTronik speed controllers.   Even if you use 2 MTronik speed controllers you are going to have disable the BEC in one of them to stop them interacting with one another - but that is a simple operation - all you need to do is remove one of the red wires from the receiver plug connections.
There is nothing wrong with using a separate batter pack you can get some high capacity rechargable batteries these days.

I have always used electonize speed controllers for all my tugs and power them and the receiver using a 6v 4amp lead gel battery and lasts for months between charges plus helps towards the ballast weight .
