hi. could someone help me identify this?
« on: June 09, 2014, 11:59:16 pm »

Hi
Could someone help me identify this boat as I am going to strip and rebuild (bought it in order to completely refurbish).  Any help will be appreciated.  I am just finishing off my last rescue of someone elses bodged project and this is my next.

Many thanks Mark

Mark...looking a both the steam plant & the hull would suggest the engine predates the hull........& the two were never installed as a working vessel

If you were to reverse the orientation of the steam plant with the chimney in line with the hole in the superstructure ...well the engine would not fit in the footprint of the hull

Hi

I am pleased you asked about the motor as I need help with the motor as well lol.  This is my first venture into steam and I don't think it is an easy engine to start with lol.  Any help and pointers on this will be very much appreciated.

thanks mark

Well I am happy to help as I am sure some of my fellow steamers will be. The boiler looks similar to one I am restoring at the moment, so I should have a good heads up.  :-))

that would be great if you can help.  I will get some extra pics of the engine and send them over.  it looks well made, however, I cannot see a throttle control on the engine, which would be helpful.
Many thanks

Is the hull wood or plastic?

Hi

It is a plastic hull.  It is fairly big.  I would think around 36 inches.  I can measure accurately later if it helps.

I have an idea that it could be a Graupner 'Bugsier' tug hull, it looks very familiar. Perhaps my old mate Ian (username 'IanPal' on here) could help, he's building a Bugsier at the moment.

Plastic Hull- Vs Steam plant, is this a good combination ?.

The hull is definetly plastic and not Fibre Glass ??.

I will double check tonight.  To be honest I think it is grp but I literally only had a quick look in the box.  I agree though that if it is plastic, I may think about using the steam plant on something else.

I have to confess I am now hoping it is grp lol.

If not though, it gives me a chance to buy another hull for something else :) lol

Looking at your picture of the Hull, the bow area looks like fibreglass to me, but the picture is not to clear..

Even when the image is downloaded and magnified, it's not clear as to whether is plastic or fibreglass...it looks a bit thin to me to be fibreglass. But..we shall soon know.

Hi
I will get on with that tonight.  I do appreciate everyones help on this.  Especially as I am looking to start work this week on this one, whilst my other boat is in the coatings stage and I have nothing to do whilst it is drying lol.
