What is the reason for the shape of the bow? It looks odd but I know there has to be a good reason for it.

What do you mean 1:1 is not a model?

Hello,
I´m the one who´s building the SNS 142 in the link to the german forum.

These are some very beautiful boats.
In the french SNSM they use this kind of hull shape not only in the 14m class but also in some smaller boats.

They also use this special hull shape in pilot and also coast guard boats. You´ll even find some ferries and fishery ships with this kind of bulbous bow.

By the way, also the Shannon class was tested (as a model) with this kind of bow.

Michael, your model looks absolutely superb...........I notice you have made it in GRP....................did you produce the plug and mould yourself.

If so do you sell these and the plans for others to copy..........would like to know the price if so.

many thanks, neil.

Hey Neil,
thank you for your nice comment about my boat.
I made both the hull and the mould by myself. It´s completely made from glassfibre reinforced epoxy with some "Airex" strengthenings. If I would build the hull also for others, mhh I have to think about that.  Kratz
The plan is available directly at the SNSM in Paris:
 Les Sauveteurs en Mer - 31, cité d'Antin - 75009 PARIS
I also have a lot of different pictures from various boats of the V1NG class (SNS140-SNS162)

I was very impressed in The special bow shaped Lifeboat, well done the series of photographs should inspired more model Lifeboats.
I was reading somewhere on the internet, I think it may have been in the USA and Norwegian Coast Guards, they had developed a Chisel 90 degree bow that cuts though the water at high speed, with water jet propulsion 40-50 knots?
