16" Scroll Saw Blades
« on: July 18, 2014, 08:28:18 pm »

My scroll saw has pinned blades in it. Some years ago I went back to Axminster Tools to buy unpinned blades as I had tight cuts to do. The salesman says they would fit. Now got round to try and set it up for cutting tight cuts again and I don't think unpinned blades can be fitted or can they ???  %%

Anybody know about these scroll saws

Its a Perform variable speed MK2  ccvfs2 16 inch model.

I think you will find that the unpinned blades will not fit your machine, the pins are required to locate in the top and bottom holders to tension the blade. The unpinned versions are for machines that have some sort of clamping method to secure the blade ends prior to tensioning.

hi Seaspray
I have an Erbauer scroll saw and I use both pined blades and fret blades with the use of clamps similar to those mentioned in the previous comment, here's a photo that might help you locate some or see if they would fit your machine  :-))  . Joe.

Cheers lads

For the replies, I've had a look on the net and got a good idea now whats what. I'll also looked at the Axminster link.  I didn't see it when I went to their site.

I've put up 2 pics of the saw and as the salesman said the unpinned blades would fit.  Looking closely  I wonder if the unpinned blades fit between the slots by slacking  the screw inserting the blade and tightening the screw up.

pic 1 in the top clamp and 2 is the bottom one.

You might also try Messrs Shesto ( http://www.shesto.co.uk/ ) who I found to be very helpful.  They have a huge range of scrollsaw blades at decent prices.

Thanks lads

I'll try the blade fitting into the slot see if that works Some of those conversions kits are £20. Will have a look at the links. Just wanting to cut out wood parts  with a good curve to them not scroll work.

cheers

Gordon

At a vintage tractor and car rally today, I'll try Neil's suggestion tomorrow and get back to you.

Cheers

I've tried Neils suggestion and it  works. But i do not have much adjustment on the tension with the unpinned  blade fitted  First one went ping so I always use the guard when using these unpinned blades.

Surprised I was lucky a enough to buy a saw with pinned/unpinned options and the salesman was right. Mind you I can change a pinned blade in 30 seconds but take 2 minutes to do the unpinned one just. Maybe when I get to know the correct tension I'll get faster fitting unpinned blades.

Couple of pic

The blade in the jaws, the curves I can get now, and the tools I found yesterday belonging to the saw.

cheers all and thanks for the offer Gordon..hopefully its sorted now
