Happy Days !

I have just received the following three hulls from Christian http://www.mtbhulls.co.uk/home

Ordered Wednesday evening from Gibraltar delivered Monday lunch time !

They are from top to bottom Fairmile D, Fairmile B & Elco 77 in 1/72 (available in other scales)








To say I’m pleased would be understating it. I would like to make the following comments ( I will point out that I have no connection)

Quality
Excellent, there are minor flaws but 20 mins with filler and sandpaper will sort it. The dark line along the deck edge is due to the fact that it’s a fibreglass deck and will be covered by rubbing strake. The hulls ‘feel’ solid, Christian says he can build lighter for Radio Control.

Price
Very good value especially when you take advantage of Christians discount for three hulls plus postage saved.

Yes they are but I'm sure they could be supplied loose.

Regarding the decks, I do the smaller hulls with them fitted as it is difficult to get the complex curve right unless it is taken from a mould. These hulls don't look right with flat decks (imagine the Elco 77 above with a flat deck  ). Let me know if for RC then I can supply the deck loose and make everything as light as possible (as thin as I dare!).

Rob:  Under no account take up knitting, it is far harder and more fiddly. 

Model making is the art of attempting to replicate in miniature a given subject.  That there will always be some that are far better than what 99% of us can achieve should serve as an incentive for us to learn and push our limits each time we build. I guarantee that each build will keep getting better.  Who knows you may one day end up as one of those modellers you wrote about.

Advancing years means I have to build in bigger scales !
I managed a MMI article years ago in 1/24, but the two I'm building now ( one will be with one of Christians hulls, the other is a Bristol Bay modification) are in 1/16 th.

Doing a Fairmile B in 24th scale at the moment, but need crew in shorts... any 24th figures like that?

HSL Mouldings have 1/24th figures for coastal forces but I'm not sure if any are in shorts.
