Trafalgar Display at Chichester Canal Basin August 2nd 2015
« on: August 01, 2015, 05:08:57 pm »

Just to let people know that the Portsmouth Model Boat Display Team will be staging a Trafalgar themed sailing ship display at the canal basin in Chichester, West Sussex, tomorrow at 2pm.
The usual bangs and flashes etc, plus a rare appearance by our HMS Victory which should be breaking down and drifting into the weeds by 2:10pm!

It was a great day. The sun shone, the people of Chichester were great, asking sensible questions, watching and enjoying the show. The Admiral Murray people did us proud with a fifteen minute potted history of Trafalgar and the roles of those involved in it... then they let us loose!

For the first time in a very long time we were able to field ten sailing ships, including our team built HMS Victory. At 104" long, she is one of the biggest models we have. Plus a selection of different vessels built over the years by the members.

Battle commenced, we almost 'crossed the tee' almost, our handwriting leaves a bit to be desired :}
Close action followed as skippers maneuvered to get the upper hand, before delivering devastating broadsides. The outcome being a foregone conclusion...we won :-))

We even let some twentieth century stuff display under our photo friendly orange gazebo!

A good day with ideal conditions in a great location, loved it.

Treble damn, I was only seven miles away on Sunday. I would have been over like a shot if I had known:O(

It looks like a fantastic display and hope to be along next year.
