newbie question-sorry
« on: November 20, 2014, 12:53:42 pm »

Greetings
Just want some advice on a suitable 12v motor and ESC for my MS model Envoy Tug. It comes supplied with a 70mm prop I believe. Also while in thicky mode do I need anything special in servo for rudder, torqe wise or will standard type do? Been away too long and lots of catching up to do. Love the site by the way, only thing, in some articles pictures not showing, then later on in thread, re-appear, strange.
thanking you in advance
regards Jenga

The military prototype of the model (photos on the Model Slipway website) had a 6:1 geared MFA Torpedo 500 motor running on 12v through an ACTion P80 speed controller. Click on this link http://www.action-electronics.co.uk/ms.php and then scroll down to "Envoy"; left-click for a wiring diagram. For direct drive I'd use a 12v 775 motor from Component Shop. I fitted a J Perkins high-torque servo although I'm not entirely convinced it really needed one. These days there's very little difference in the price so why not? This one would do the job and it's not expensive http://www.componentshop.co.uk/55g-high-torque-metal-geared-servo.html

Hi Jenga
My envoy tug HMS enigma runs on a MFA motor with a 6:1 reduction gear on 12 volt battery and I wouldn't change a single thing she sails extremely well, I've sailed for over an hour and the motor is barely warm , a standard servo is all that's needed for the rudder, and she has a 15 amp ESC
