Tamiya RC sherman
« on: November 25, 2014, 10:51:56 pm »

hi all,
I was wondering if anyone had experience with the tamiya M4 sherman?? More importantly the rc electrics."..

I have got one from a club member who said he couldn't get the gun to work, on investigation I think the electronic boards are goosed.

I have steering for about 2 minutes then it stops and shuts down to restart you need to disconnect the battery. If you try and elevate or fire the guns the same happens.

Has anyone else had this problem or know of any fixes??

sounds like some kind of thermal cutout, or excessive current draw
Are all the mechanisms free running?

They seem to be ok,
However I found an online manual that had some extra pages.....
I think it is all down to the gun elevation had about 5minutes running ok,
Machine gun firing, lights on/off but as soon as I tried to elevate then it froze... {:-{

Try running it's with the elevation unplugged (that's the yellow cable out of the dmd). Are you running on a fully charged battery? Elevativions only a 2A max output so shouldn't be triggering a shutdown. Any pictures would be useful!

I would try a fresh battery in the model first. When the battery goes flat, the tank performs an engine shutdown sound effect, depending on the state of the battery, this will keep repeating as the voltage drops till it stops altogether.
Or...
One of our members model Shermans doesn't like the cold! It has done sterling service for over ten years but recently has been playing up. I watched the owner put the tank under a hand warmer a couple of minutes, two weeks ago. Hey Presto! It sprung back into life..

Not liking cold sounds like a battery thing.

I just bought a brand new battery and have given it a wee check in case of a faulty cell.

I have heard of engines not liking a cold start but that's a bit extreme  :-))
